The BBC forecasts keep mentioning 'a brief respite' from the cold spell, I can't quite understand why because it looks to me as if it's set to be a quite a lengthy spell of much less cold weather (even mild for a time!) and frost free nights?

the mildest morning in a while and only the second morning this month with no frost, either air or ground, nor any snow patches, the first time no snow this month.
