Mild and windy, the temperature is 5.6c and the wind gusting over 50 mph. Much less cloud than anticipated from the forecast last night, only 3 oktas cirrus and stratocumulus.

We haven't actually had any proper rain at all this month, all the precipitation in the first half of the month was snow and since then there's been only drizzle; February could end up being the driest since 1998.

another cloudy but fairly mild start with the mean temperature for February now around3.5C

One thing the month has not done is live up to its reputation for 'February fill dyke'

very little other than equivalent rainfall from snow.

Can't complain too much about today's weather in terms of sunshine amounts so far, much more sunnier than forecast yesterday and there is hardly a cloud in the sky. The wind is taking the edge off the temperture though which is around 10C but its just nice too see some lengthy spells of sunshine for once.

The relatively clear skies early this morning didn't last long, a sheet of stratocumulus spread from the north west by 0845 and has persisted ever since.

As The Pit mentioned earlier the strong winds seem to come in short spells of an hour or two followed by sudden decreases.

At 0825 the mean speed was 36 mph NW, gusting to 58 but by 0900 the mean was 14 mph, gusting to 33. It's since picked up again but only to around 25 mph.
