heavy snow in Tropcial Weymouth for the past few hours. No way out of the town at the moment with both main routes closed.

Not a common event at all round here let alone in March!

No snow in Eastbourne, a white dusting (possibly graupel or hail) around Lewes where the temps have dropped to 2.0 DgC. Reports on the radio of wintry showers around various locations in Sussex but it's all very hit and miss and nothing substantial at all. Inevitably, the trains are starting to experience problems, even though all I can see is a light covering of wet slush! :drinks:

First time I've had the full winter cycling gear on for a few weeks - can't say I've missed the palarva of putting it all on in the morning!

Min of 1.3c now 2.7c and a lovely sunny morning with somewhat milky skies but otherwise clear. The change in position of the sun from December is now very noticable - instead of a dim orange light on tall buildings it's already high enough to feel warm. Lovely!

Sunny start to the day here in Exeter, 1-2cm of snow on the grass, enough to qualify as the 4th Met Office "snow day" this winter here, beating the 1971-2000 average of 3 days per year. Rain and sleet overnight surprisingly turned to snow after about 2am.

Two months ago, I came to Exeter assuming that I wouldn't see any lying snow while I was here- yet I've seen more snow here than I saw in three years at Lancaster!

A very light covering of big snow flakes(you can make out the individual flakes on the car) in Biggin Hill this morning soon melted though on my way to work.

Pretty impressive winter really with 5 months of having a few days with lying snow

Late Oct -light night covering Nov Light covering Dec 2ins cover for most of a week Jan light cover for early Jan -Feb Heavy snow 1ft for most of the week enhanced by a further covering on Friday 12th which meant for the first time I had to abandon the Car. and now a very light covering of real snow this morning.

6 months- and I do expect a bit more for March into April who knows even May which has happened on the Downs one May night a few years ago.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
