You'll need Neutral Density filters, you can get ND2, ND4 and ND8, with ND8 blocking the most light.

You can also get ND64 which i've just discovered, but they are expensive and hard to find in the UK.

I have an ND4 but I haven't used it much in daylight so i'm not sure how long exposures it would do, I would think still only 1-2 seconds.

The ND64 would certainly work though from what i've read.

Good info here...

http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Using-a-...ity-filter-4871

Thanks, looks like i need to look for a ND8 or ND64 then! :aggressive:

Thinking about getting suction mount

Hi Daniel, I probably wouldnt bother with the suction mount. We'll already have 1-2 cameras on the lead chase vehicle, and probably have the live streaming cam on the other vehicle (doghouse) :) , aswell as other bits dangling in front of the driver such as multiple GPS recievers, HSDPA modems etc. Windscreen space is going to be at a premium. Unless Netweather want to charge per square inch or something :)

Wow, I am genuinely impressed by the amount of electronic goods that are going out with you all!! I have going with me:-

Stills camera - Panasonic Lumix DMC -F228 2X2GB memory cards

Video camera

Mobile phone

MP3 player

clothes

shoes

passport

adaptors

money

tickets

insurance

No Laptop :)

I feel wholely inadequate!! I will also be taking more than 2 pairs of pants :) To anyone who is on Tour 1 - hi! looking forward to meeting you all on the plane/in the US.

Just a quicky question about insurance - do you take out specialist insurance and if you do which company do you contact.

Cheers

Tammy

Dont worry too much about the Laptop, we will have at least 5 on the 1st Tour, obviously 2 will be used for both Barons and GRLevel 3 and the Live Streaming, but if you need to log on in the evening the rooms we book are quite close so you will be able to use 1 of ours.

Insurance Wise - Walkabout is quite good for Extreme Sports I believe

Yep, go-walkabout can add it as a specific activity for a small addition to a standard policy:

http://www.go-walkabout.co.uk/

in fact they have a page for it now:

http://www.go-walkabout.co.uk/first_class_...g_insurance.php

I think i'm going with the Post Office insurance, £73 including hazardous activities. If that covers storm chasing, it's £20 cheaper than Go-walkabout I think.

Hello dogs32 :) Thanks to you all for the information about insurance - I'll have a look at Go walka-bout and get it sorted out.

Am I right in thinking I am the only girl on Tour 1? No bother at all if I am - just thought I would ask!!

Getting ridiculously excited about Storm chasing - can't wait to get going!

Hiya! I was the only girl in the tour in 2007 with Paul and the gang - don't worry, they're very friendly!

And it looks like I'm the only girl on Tour 2 this year too!

Hi dogs32, yes, all gear just about ready thanks! But then, I don't tend to heft a whole lot of technology with me when I travel! :)

Just netbook, compact camera and iPod.

My best non-technology recommendation for this year: vitamin supplement to offset all the junk-food! :drunk:

I also don't have a lot of technology with me, mostly MP3, camera and mobile :) my packing pile is coming along nicely and is starting to take over the spare room!! I think that the non technology recommendation from Pale Plue Sky is excellent as I suspect I will be returning alot heavier than when I leave :)

I don't mind being the only girl on the tour, eveyone has been so friendly - just looking forward to putting names to faces!! I pity my poor colleagues that have another month of me getting excited about storm chasing!! I think that they wil be glad when I actually get going!

Hello Aine, hadn't noticed you two were heading back out. I might see you out there as I'm chasing during the same weeks as tours 2 and 3. Good luck with the chase. Don't worry about feeling out of place, Tammy... that won't last more than a few minutes before you are made to feel one of the team...

Btw, what is everyone going to put as first hotel on the customs/immigration forms etc?

Hi Ross,

People need not to leave it to late with the green card........I read somewhere on the site they are not happy with late forms being filled in...

Hotel I put nothing but Paul.S as the Hotel details.

I still got excepted..

Best to keep the long code that they give you just in case there is a problem...

The Green card lasts for 5 years if I remember right once excepted..

Flight I wouldnt leave it to late Ross...

We'll be sending you details for your landing address etc. Wouldn't advise not putting an address in when filling in the website. Info is going out either this weekend or early next week with final invoices etc.

Yeah, i'll be booking soon.

You have to fill a green card in every time you enter the states? If thats the one you fill in on the plane and not the one you do on the website as i know thats changed in the last few months.

I still have to get my new passport from the postal service. Starting to freak out a little as I should have got it by now.

Same here, just sent the forms, i'll be happy when it's in my hand.

This green card, is that the Visa Waiver Programme or that something else?
