After a dry and partly cloudy day at work in Basingstoke, on the warm and muggy side of the front, I've arrived back in Reading to light rain with the threat of something much heavier. Currently 11.6, maximum 17.6, last night's minimum 11.0. We also had a brief thunderstorm just before midnight last night.

A small thunderstorm passed here between 02-30 and 03-00 this morning with heavy rain but all was calm this morning. It was rather cloudy and muggy this morning but by midday the clouds dissipated and allowed convection take place. This afternoon was largely sunny and warm, the warmest day of the year so far and I have had great views of storms over Wales since about 3.30pm. Now it is cloudy and very ominous looking to the north.

Its been cloudy and cool pretty much all day with outbreaks of mostly moderate rain (occasionally heavy at times,) with lots of misty low cloud. Top temperature was 13.7C this morning, this afternoon its been mostly round the 10C-12C mark which has felt decidedly chilly in the easterly breeze.

Thick fog until late morning, thinning to mist by midday. An overcast day with a few short and mainly light showers, also the coolest day of the month, the cool feel accentuated by a fresh NE wind.

A chilly feeling day & evening with a chilly easterly, dark skies & frequent showers. Using a lot more heating tonight than I've used in a good few weeks - chilly easterlies literally strip the house of warmth. 9.9c at the moment compared to this time last nights almost 14c.

A tempestuous day with a really strong buffeting and cold east wind which has been absolutely relentless all day, also a very dry wind but it just cuts through you, my flat is east facing and exposed and the wind seems to be cutting right through it.

Like yesterday a predominantly cloudy day aswell, though the sun did try to break through on occasion.

Come this time tomorrow it will have been a week with nil rain measurement, nothing unusual for April, but a big contrast to much of the rest of england and Wales, we have been just to the north of all frontal activity, hence way I think the pressure gradients have been so strong here over the past 2 days and why we have seen such a strong east wind.

Can see tomorrow being a carbon copy of today and yesterday.. roll on Saturday.

My first ever post on NW ! Hope it works.

Can't find a suitable thread.

Just wondering is anyone else is suffering with hay-fever type symptoms today?

I've been working outdoors every day this week in this welcome dry but strong E wind.

Felt increasingly out of sorts, tired, sneezing and with sore eyes. Noticed similar problems sometimes other Aprils. I don't suffer later in the main hay fever times, thank goodness.

BBC Ceefax gives high tree pollen count for many areas at present. Other years birch pollen from Scandinavia was said to be causing problems in the UK.

Sure enough, a Google search under birch pollen shows there's an extra big surge in Denmark at present this season. Nicely upwind.
