It has been requested for a pinned thread to show the latest Sea Ice web cams in the Arctic, and here it is.

Currently as expected the Arctic is Frozen, however they may well change during the year.

Current Picture as at April 20

Please feel free to add latest pictures through the year.

That's areal pity!

S'pose there's no-one currently up there to give it a thump (as useful as hoping it'll pop back into transmitting in my world of elec-trickery.....)

Here's the latest - no melt this year yet, apparently!

The temperature has yet to climb above -1degC, according to the sensors at the site, but the drifts may be showing some signs of melting due to the summer sun, as you point out GW. The temperature last year at this time, was a degree or so above zero, and melt pools were already apparent, as the following snapshot shows.

The 2009 melt seems to be slower and later than 2008 was.

True the 2009 looks "closer " to what it should be at this time of year.

Melt pools have started to appear on the Arctic Web cam, but late compared to recent year.

Melt pools, being noticeably darker than the snow cover, reduce the albedo of the pack and allow more energy to be absorbed.

The date of the appearance of the melt pools would only be significant (IMHO) if we could guarantee that the pack is the same thickness as previous years and the conditions from now until the end of melt season also mirror previous years.

For me it is another 'wait and see' thing!

Mmm looks like a canoe excusion to me. Certainly not the Arctic itself and nothing to do with proof. Note the lack of supporting data/information. Typical.

I think you'll find those folk have now pulled back from the Petermann Glacier as it's about to calve a berg the size of Manhattan island......nothing really eh?

I noticed that, I would imagine this is due to the ice area the camera thawing at least for a time, and perhaps then re-freezing with the camera at the different angle.

By way of light relief, here is a video of ice overwhelming barriers around a small offshore island oil drilling platform in Alaska

Thanks for that. The whirlpools are a massive surprise. I think some of the videos of glacier break ups are just as spectacular as some of the extreme weather videos some people have filmed hence asking for links.
