Partly cloudy and feeling pleasant. It's noticeably cloudier than yesterday and the temperature's probably a degree or two down too, but there's no chill in the wind making it feel like a true summer's day for the first time this year.

Great day today, sunny this morning with a low of 3.4c , stayed sunny throughout today with a high of 19.6c which felt very pleasent with a slight breeze, by around 3pm cloud moved in from the west, fortunatley the cloud is very patchy and slow moving allowing lengthy sunny breaks.

Summer 1976 didn't begin "properly" until around 21 June, though there was a hot spell in the south in May and frequent warm dry sunny weather in the S and E in the first two-thirds of June but unsettled cooler weather in the NW. The period 22 June extending into early July was the hottest of the summer, and frequent hot dry sunny weather continued through to late August- August was particularly sunny and dry, in places right up there with those of 1947 and 1995.

Summer 1976 remains the ultimate of hot dry sunny summers in the last decade over much of England and Wales but in Scotland and Ireland it was eclipsed by that of 1995, which saw those regions benefit from a reverse of the 1976 split during the first two-thirds of June- cool and cloudy in the east and south but sunny in the NW.

There is a tentative link between notable spring warm spells and hot summers (it happened in 1976, 1989, 1990, 1995 and 2003) but it might just be coincidental. There is certainly no relationship between homogeneous but non-outstanding warmth (which is what we're getting now) and the weather of the following summer.

Much more cloud about today than expected which has pegged temperatures, but very pleasant all the same, with little wind about.

Can't see much sunshine breaking through for the remainder of the week a distinctly cloudy couple of days ahead perhaps with spits and spots of drizzle tomorrow and more prolonged light rain later on Friday.

Tues : warm sunny spells, cloudier/breezy by eve, max 18.2c.
