thanks Ross. even though we dont have such severe weather, perhaps we could take a leaf out of the US media's book and have better "current conditions" reports here

To be honest they need it we really don't as much. It is literally a matter of life or death there. Would be nice, but not needed in reality and that will always win.

Been out most of the weekend and come back to find my sis has buggered the computer. Gonna be following this on the laptop for the rest of the evening. Not surprised at the High risk, but quite surprised to see the eastern extent of the 5% tornado range. Team could be watching out for overnight tornadoes in the early hours once they get back to their Hotel.

It will be an interesting decision which way to go when the team touch down. Just so I can work out driving times and possible realistic ranges does anyone know how long it takes to drive from DFW to Oklahoma City? Thanks.

Takes about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs to Oklahoma City from DFW. I suspect Paul is intending to head up Hwy 287 towards Witchita Falls when they leave the hotel, that was what him and I discussed last night, and I think this still seems the best option later as storms continue to grow and develop in that tornado watch area just NW of Witchita Falls.

Thanks Nick. Certainly looks like the direction to be going in with a storm already showing up north of Aspermont.

They have landed if they were on the American Airlines flight. I didn't realise you can track them with a live map in the air as well!

http://www.dfwairport.com/flights/list.php...e=AA&type=a

BA flight is scheduled to be 30minutes late - currently above Teneesseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

latest forecast update from conv discussion

...CURRENT THINKING ACROSS THE MODERATE AND HIGH RISK AREAS...

THE LARGE MCS FROM NW OK EXTENDING NNEWD ACROSS KS INTO NEB AND IA

IS ORGANIZING INTO A LINEAR MCS AND WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE A

WIDESPREAD SEVERE THREAT LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE MID-EVENING.

RUC ANALYZED INSTABILITY AND VERTICAL SHEAR FIELDS APPEAR FAVORABLE

FOR AN EXTENSIVE SEVERE THREAT COVERAGE. LARGE HAIL AND WIND DAMAGE

SHOULD ACCOMPANY THE STRONGER CELLS IN THE SQUALL-LINE EWD ACROSS

THE REMAINDER OF KS INTO NW MO AND SRN IA. A FEW TORNADOES SHOULD

OCCUR WITH SUPERCELLS EMBEDDED IN THE LINE OR AHEAD OF THE LINE

THROUGH EARLY TO MID-EVENING.

Here's the current radar for areas west of DFW showing a few developing severe storms. Everything else further north in OK and KS would be too far away for jet-weary storm chasers, but this stuff is about two hours away from DFW and moving quite slowly to the northeast.

http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=fdr...111&loop=no

Check the time code (UTC = z) for an updated view.

I think this activity west of SPS (Wichita Falls TX) might generate a weak tornado later today, although it is not exactly rambunctious, certainly a heavy rain and hail producer. The outlook is for it to continue through much of tonight as upper dynamics actually intensify somewhat balancing the lower diurnal index.

The general pattern should repeat a little further southeast tomorrow.

Tim Purington cam has been quite interesting: http://severestudios.com/livechase

Interesting how? The internet here is no where near fast enough to stream anything.

There was a bit of a lowering which he was zooming in on but it pretty much dissappeared just as i posted it

That website streams a lot better than TVN.

Still a long old haul to the west of Witchita Falls where the nearest storms are, could looking at a 2 to 2 1/2 drive there giving some welly to get on it, still no signs yet of storms erupting further east - though GFS and WRF do break it out towards DFW by midnight here.

What is the name of the person streaming for the NW team?

You won't find it on there, it's going to be hosted on Netweather TV here...
