Sustained windspeeds of between 55-60 kts here at the moment (Violent Storm 11) pretty good for this time of year!!

(Ignore my gizmo btw - my anemomter at home is t*ts up - the impeller is stuffed - got a new one on order) readings above are from the CG Station - we have an anemometer on top of our MF mast.

Top gust so far 62kts = 68mph

Unseasonal gales. And not one warning. I half expected to see something on here given the strength of the winds, but nil. Must all be interested in Storm Chase USA :D

Warnings were issued yesterday by Metcheck and the Met Office. :)

Got up to 69mph at the University weather site last night. [Perhaps higher on the more exposed Tay Bridge weather station]. Lots of debris about this morning with tree branches and leaves all over the place.

More like Autumn than late Spring. Still gusty with squally showers now.

Looks like it's the south's turn for some windy weather over the coming days, with a fairly deep low pushing up from the south against a high to the north, squeezing together the isobars. Met Office are forecasting winds of 65mph along exposed parts of south Devon and west Cornwall by this evening, and it looks decidely wet from tuesday onwards, with strong winds or gales more widespread across south England by Tuesday:

FSXX00T_48.jpg

Exposed coasts will probably see around 60mph again looking at this chart, with the potential for slightly stronger depending on just how deep the low becomes and how much the high to the north resists the north motion of the low. Either way, some unseasonably windy weather is perhaps on the cards for southern parts.

weather warning issued from met office

Risk of disruption

Warning

Valid

UK regions:

South West England

Severe Gales Tue 12 May

There is a moderate risk of severe weather continuing to affect the Southwest overnight Monday and through Tuesday morning. There is the potential for easterly winds to gust up to 55 mph across hills and exposed coasts. Winds should decrease later.

Issued at: 1151 Mon 11 May

I thought under 55 mph was under their critrea for winds?

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_...t_warnings.html

I was right, so why do they have a warning out that doesn't even meet their criteria?

I suspect you're not the only one to notice these things cookie. Best to keep quiet about it as you generally end up being shot down in flames and told you're a southern basher.

Said southern softie will soon reply saying there is more population in the south than the north so a warning is needed, completely forgetting the warning says this:

There is the potential for easterly winds to gust up to 55 mph across hills and exposed coasts

Of course, the north doesn't have these landmarks and never experiences 55mph gusts, so who are we to complain!?

Less trees with full leaf in the north to fall down on top of houses, east wind would cause more damage as it`s blowing against the leaning trees.

Must have heard you it's now gone. Although I'm pretty sure they've issued warnings before for such speeds elsewhere in the country.

im not bothered weather you find it boring or not don't read it. simple. sorry mate but you're wrong last nights wasn't that windy up here but it was Shetland coastie who posted and I decided I would replay. last nights max here was only 45 mph.

last week we had very sever gales and their was weather warnings issued by the met office. and we had gusts of 70 mph. so if you don't want to read it don't bother calling it boring and keep you're opoins to you're self.
