April did not live up to its usual title....just done the calculations for the Vale Of Evesham Weather Station [VOEWS] and the the most obvious fact to come out of this month was its benign weather and once again above average temperature both day and night....

Average day temp....12.5c recorded 15.6c

Average night temp.....4.4c recorded 5.6c

17 dry days and 13 wet days where the recorded rainfall came to the average monthly figure of 51.9mms.

Highest wind gust...30 mph southerly on April 8th

Highest barometer reading....1026mbs

Lowest barometer reading....1003.1mbs

Lowest temperature...minus 1.1c

Highest temperature....19.1c <_<

Overall, an "uninteresting" month weatherwise ,but some impressive above average temperatures!!:)

Just posted a bit on this in the winter review thread, guess it would have been more appropriate here. From the Winterhighland AWS at 2500ft on CairnGorm Mountain:

Average April Temperature: 5.3c

Max Temperature: 14.5c

Low temperature: -2.7c

Only 3 air frosts recorded, one of those just scraping below 0c for a couple of hours with a low of -0.6c. No Ice Days or indeed days where the average was below freezing, compared to 18 days with an average below 0c last April.

This April was 3.5c warmer than last April and of course Easter was late this year! :o

This April was the second warmest of the six I've kept records, bettered only by 2007, while it was the second driest, also behind 2007. The mean temperature came out at 1.1c above what is now a six year mean and April is showing a trend to be a dry month in West Wiltshire.

Average max = 15.89c (highest = 20.4c on 20 April)

Average min = 5.82c (lowest = 0.6c on 5 April)

Mean = 10.85c

Dry days = 20

Rain days = 10

Rainfall = 31.5mm

APRIL 2009, LAMPETER

Summary

Very mild, fairly dry and quite sunny

April 2009 was only really notable for its constant mildness and an almost total lack of cold weather. This was especially true of maxima- there were no really cool days at all, with the lowest being a mere 11.9c! Conversely, although it was ‘warm’ at times, there was no early taste of Summer yet- the months highest reading being only 18.2c.

The month also consisted of alternating mostly dry and unsettled spells. The longest dry spell was just 6 days from the 18th to 23rd, while the final week was the most unsettled and wet, having almost half of the rather meagre 67mm total. Slight frosts occurred at times during the clearer spells.

Overall another boring month for us weather nuts….no snow, thunder, hail, gales and no hard frosts; also nothing really warm or cold, nor especially wet or dry!

April 2009 stats for Cleadon, Tyne & Wear: (relative to estimated 1971-2000 averages)

Mean Max 13.1C (+2.1)

Mean Min 5.5C (+1.3)

Mean temp 9.3C (+1.7)

Precipitation 23mm (48%)

Highest max 16.8C (21st)

Lowest min 1.3C (12th)

Days of snow, thunder, gale- 0

Days of fog- 5

Overall a very benign, uninteresting, homogeneously warm spring month- dry with slightly above average sunshine. There was an anticyclonic start with variable cloud cover, then quite a sunny second week (the Easter weekend was very sunny on the Sunday, which also featured the lowest minimum of 1.3) but after the Easter weekend there was a prolonged spell of North Sea stratus. It became mostly sunny and dry for a time afterwards, before the only wet spell of the month hit- the 28th was dull and wet all day.

The number of days with fog (5) was the highest in April since I began recording in 1993.

Statistically it was not as warm or dry as April 2007 but for warmth it was beaten only by 2003, 2004 and 2007 in a record going back to 1993. The month's highest maximum (16.8C) was actually short of the highest maximum for April 2008 (17.2 on the 3rd), illustrating how temperatures were mostly homogeneous through the month. However there was a notably warm night 23rd/24th with a minimum of 10.5C. Spring 2009 is so far 'quietly' panning out as a very warm dry one.

The second warmest April on record. Like March, the month was homogenously above average, though saw no great extremes of temperature. There was a difference of just 14°C between the highest maxima and lowest minima. The latter being the warmest in April on record. Nights were consistently mild, a consequence of regular cloudcover. Indeed, just three days saw the temperature drop below 5°C. There were no ground or air frosts either.

The month was mainly dull, warm and settled. The first week saw no measurable rain and regular sunshine, before the second saw the majority of the monthly rainfall. Mid-month there was then a spell of north-easterly winds, bringing low cloud, mist and fog with temperatures close to average by day but well above by night. The period 13th - 26th saw no rain at all, but it remained fairly dull until the wind shifted on the 20th. The best day being the 21st, with a temperature of 17.9C under clear skies. The final four days then saw a change to wetter weather, though it remained warm.

Overall, an exceptionally warm and dry but rather dull April. Despite being the second warmest on record it produced weather rather different to April 2007.
