This is a very good point:

Prepare for each and every season regardless of the seasonal outlook. Even a near- or below-normal season can produce landfalling hurricanes, and it only takes one landfalling storm to make it a bad season.

1992 being a prime example.

Indeed. Nothing affected the Gulf or the Carribbean otherwise. A quiet season apart from the devestating Andrew.

With the current ENSO 'seam change' underway it must have been a dfifficult call this year. As ever it is the number of major landfall 'canes that is important. I do hope the Carribean is spared though, Cuba took a pounding last year and all credit to them that the death toll was kept so low.
