Time to open a thread for the June CET. June is one of the only two months in the year, along with October, where the 1971-2000 average is lower than the 61-90 average. The 1961-90 Jnue average is 14.2, whereas the 71-00 average is 14.1. It is now 18 years since the last significantly below average June, in 1991 at 12.1. More recently the relatively cool Junes of 1999 and 2008 were only very slightly below the long term average. In recent years there were very warm Junes in 2003 and 2006, and five successive Junes from 2003-2007 with a CET over 15*C, the longest run of consecutive Junes with a CET above 15*C ever recorded.

My prediction for now is 15.8C as I think the easterlies during the early part of the month will be warm away from the east coast, and after the first week I think there will be a preponderance of southerly winds.

14.6C Unsettled weather to smother the UK courtesy of a stubborn low pressure sitting just to our west, bringing lots of rain and average temperatures. (after a fairly warm start)

Ok, I am going to call 15.3 degrees, can't see it being a particularly cool month, once again it will be mild nightime minima I feel which will hold the CET up, I'm not expecting maxima to be at very high levels, I think the synoptics will be very similiar to what we have seen this month i.e. low pressure to the SW will pull in warmer southerlies/south easterlies from time to time interspersed with short lived westerlies, plenty of northern blocking for most of the month I feel - will be difficult to shift..
