Started the day in Childress under sunny skies and hope were high of an Upgrade from Text Rosk to Slight Risk and SPC Duly obliged! So off we set with the intention to find an Outflow Boundary to kick the Storms off, Convective Temps needed to reach 32c 90f but easily surpassed this with 36c 97f being recorded near the Dallas Metroplex.

The 1st Supercell fired just West of DFW & We had a good road south from Gainsville but we would have to negotiate the Dallas Metroplex to get to its Southern Side (No easy Task at Rish Hour) But we did just that and saw a Classic Supercell that as in the progress of Splitting.

    post-24-1243400270_thumb.jpg - Our Position

We then Core Punched our cell thinking we would take on Nickel Sized Hail.....WRONG :good:

Some Huge Baseballs started hitting the car, she has some amazing dents now and Nick F will Upload the Video, some of the trees were stripped bare and leaf debris littered the road. Managed to only stay in the Hail for about 2 Minutes thank god, the guys loved it.

    post-24-1243400439_thumb.jpg - Nice Mammas

post-24-1243400462_thumb.jpg - The obligatory Cg Shot

As of now we have a huge Squall Line about to hit us in Weatherford, so the guys are getting ready for that now.

A much better day than expected. So that is 7 out of 7 Days with Thunderstorms during the Death Ridge of 2009

Hey hey, that was a nice suprise to see. We were en-route to Abilene when we saw this beastie go up & spent some time shooting it with HD video & relocated for the lightning during the evening. Nice to get a little action at last lol. Maybe see you chaps tomorrow afternoon ;) I'll leave you with some images from our distant location lol.

Nice going. Good photos and the core punching, intentional or not, is a good watch.

Hope it keeps up for you as you seem to be pulling something from nothing at the moment!

Fantastic images again particularly the skyscrapers in the foreground of that enormous supercell , glad the temps

surpassed the 'needed' figure and broke the cap.

In those high temps that doppler radar would make an excellent frying pan...could feed the whole

    vortex2 crew with a huge omlette...! :D

Hey Mark we had another day of stormy conditions here in the north east, no Sferics again but some

good structures even got some mammatus

Pleased you got onto this cell - it fired a bit further south than I expected but the getting something to fire in those conditions is the key!

For today (Weds) I'm thinking about the area doe east or ESE of DFW for best outflow play ahead of the cold front. RUC progs max CAPE of approaching 3000 with some shear offered by the lower portions of a reasonable subtropical jet.

Provisional target - Tyler to Lufkin with ongoing storms around Houston developing into the afternoon.

Trouble is Neil, the area SE of DFW in E and SE Texas becomes very wooded - especially around Tyler - we found this out last year ... so not ideal for chasing from a visual perspective.

Difficult to know whether to head S or SW into Sern Texas or head east into Arkansas east of the Arkansas River where the Plains of the Mississipi valley start. Both areas are a long long drive.

We are currently in a hotel in Weatherford, just west of Ft Worth.

Ok wasn't sure of the terrain down there. I was thinking of west and central AR but that terrain I do know and hiking, swimming, tree-chopping and chain saw lessons yes. Storm chasing - definately not advised LOL!

Once over the river and it does flatten out a bit (Stuggart last year?)

Think we will probably head south down, were going to head towards Corpus Christi, but as its over 400 miles - a change of plan to go to Fredericksburg is the intitial plan.

    Great pics guys (and gals).

Was watching live stream until you were very near the rain core. (Then live stream died!)

Done a great job so far guys. (Even if Shermy's reports don't load up properly. :( )
