They have been seen already this year.....

A useful forum here: http://nlcnet.proboards.com/

Post your observations and pics here or give the heads up to others.

Some of my pix from 2006...... (Taken with a trusty old Minolta 4 meg Compact set to manual without a tripod!)

Indeed they were Mr OON, and the bright patch on the last one of mine can be clearly seen in yours even though you were over a hundered miles north of me.

As always ..... I think you were better equiped than I.

But you're often seen wandering around Asby at night gazing at heavenly bodies with your equipment out.

They've been visible frequently in N Ireland last week.

First display Ive seen since discovering about noctilucent clouds and I think it was a pretty good one!

Found a 'night sky' setting on my camera with a 15 sec shutter speed that worked a treat!

Edit: sorry if pics are ridiculously sized haven't had time to re size yet.

the mistiness in the second photo is due to misty conditions over the fields the photo was taken.

Nice one!!

I'm never going to catch the early morning ones!

Thanks, It was very rare for me to be up at that time too. I just happened to wake up just before 3am, looked out the window and saw them on the horizon. Although I then spent quite a while looking for my camera and luckily found it!

Ive always wanted to see these since first starting to look last year and last night I finally got lucky.

Very pleased with how the pics came out for a first time attempt!

just posted some pics in the photography section. <_<

Nice one Storm! Was hopeful of a sighting here yesterday but the clouds rolled in at dusk and it was heaving it down during the night. Still chucking it down now!

Hint: with the long exposure you seem to have a bit of camera shake. If you use a tripod and either a shutter release cable or a delayed shutter opening it will help keep the camera stable. Brilliant for a first attempt though

Spot on Mr Data!

Just snapped this from the front door :D

Edit: Canon D60, Sigma 20mm 1:1.8 lens, exposure 0.5 sec. Yep, it's a beast of a lens!

Display getting even better, covering a huge area of the northern 1/4 of the sky. Sadly I have to go to bed :D

Used a mix 15 sec and 30 sec shutter speeds. (30 secs when it became more properly dark and the display itself began to fade)

Thanks for the comment/advise frogesque, I was using a tripod thingy when I took them but only found a way of using a self timer (delayed shutter opening) setting while taking long exposure shots half way through taking tonight's pics!

I really should get to bed considering I have an exam tomorrow!

Edit: my images are stupidly big again so may take a while to load. Not sure if there the best of my pics its hard to decide at this time of night!

I saw these around midnight and even now they are still very bright.

Ive never seen a display as impresive as this before. I wish I had a camera good enough to take pictures of it!

I was on my way to bed when I noticed an unusual glow in the northern sky. I thought it was suspicously bright for 12:30am!

I suspected noctilucents, though I had never seen them before tonight.

Certainly a great display, if I had spotted it earlier I might have gone out for a walk to get a better view.

Only had a poor quality camera to hand, but it shows up well in my pics despite local light pollution, Ill have to sort them out tomorrow.

Glad I posted the heads up earlier. Great photo's folks. There's plenty of time left in the season so let's hope for a few more shows like last night.
