In Mr Data's first photo (post 18) there's a very bright star near the top - though I wonder is it a planet? Saw it at about 22.30 last night from here.

Maybe worth a look North soon.... Visible in Hungary earlier but at low altitude... Credit to NLC observers forum for info

2-3 brightness, at 6 degrees altitude, azimuth was 350-10

Well worth waiting for the clouds to roll away...

That is a star called Capella which is the brightest star in the constellation of Auriga and is the only star of the 'Winter Hexagon' which remains above the horizon.

Looked as if there was a pretty good display again last night. Lots of detail with luminescent patches of 'mackrel sky' but spoiled by low black clouds rolling. Also cold and windy so I didn't go out with the camera.

Indeed Frogesque. I could see light behind the clouds but didnt think they would break. When they finally did around 11:30 I was rewarded by another great show. It's been practically every night this week so far. I wonder if we'll be lucky again tonight?

I've resized well back and cropped a few images for ease of viewing...

Phil.

Thank you Phil. Am hoping to see some tonight, that will need the current extensive cloud to clear though.

At the UK's latitude until the end of July, so plenty of time yet.

Saw my first proper sighting last night! amazing things, they were only faint though so it must be great to see the bright diplays.

Around 3am the NLC's were almost directly overhead i would have took photos but i was way to tired,

perhaps tonight, but i suspect that the low cloud will probably roll in and spoil everything....

Yep - seen to have faded here too.. in fact they seemed to fade slowly then dissapear since I first saw them.

Took this pic from end back garden though:

then after that dissapeared something faint on NNW horizon:

post-7593-1246660764_thumb.jpg - shutter speed 30 secs

Edit: originally uploaded the wrong image

not sure if this is the right thread or not? B)

But hey, NLC's seen from here in Kent tonight. I noticed them whilst driving home from work around 10:25, and as soon as i got indoors I quickly grabbed the tripod and SLR and started shooting. I've selected the 2 best shots from a whole series. They have all but gone now though B) :)

That makes it my 2nd sighting of this strange phenomena :)

Been waiting up as the sky looked good for tonight - seems like an excellent display right now!

Going to try for some pics!
