Yesterday saw a very cold maxima for the time of year in Warcop at 7.2 degrees.

Today could equal this, but doubt it..

Does anyone have any records of other cold maxima June days.. i.e. below 8 degrees.

I know the 2nd June 1975 will have seen some record cold maxima for some spots.

I know early June 1977 saw some cold maxima in the north, also June 1985, June 1991 and June 1997 saw some very cold maxima days.

Today I've only reached 8.9º* which is the coldest June day I've recorded in my eleven years by some 3 degrees.

I'm surprised at Warcop's maximum yesterday, as I'm only 4 miles from Warcop and we had a high of 10.2º yesterday, at 9.55am. That quickly dropped to 5.1º by 3pm however.

* Scrap that - my weather station hasn't uploaded since midday so it could have gone above that.

I thought we were in line for a sub 10c max' today as the temp' hovered between 6.1 and 8.0c throughout the morning and early afternoon while it was raining. Unfortunately the rain cleared to the west around 1315 g.m.t and the temp' struggled up to a max' of 10.4c which, not to be churlish, is the lowest June max' here since 1999 ( provided it doesn't get any higher between now and 0900 g.m.t tomorrow ).

The lowest June max' ( 0900-0900 ) I've recorded in the last 46 years is 7.4c on the 6th in 1985.

That's amazing....you've got to be at least 47.

And then some! ( but not as old as John Holmes )

Early June 1991 it reached just 9c in london, going by June 2007 that was the coldest day all that summer of 12.7c.

Just 9.7c today smashing that mini record by 3c.

Well, I have it on good authority that John's grandson has fond memories of his wartime childhood...but then didn't particularly enjoy being an ARP Warden in WW2.

Actually reached 10.7 here today, which is the lowest June maximum in my eleven years of being a nerd.

I remember being on holiday in June, 1972 and visiting relatives near B'ham, the daytime temperature according to their outside thermometer was 48 F and it was raining. I don't remember the date, but I remember the visual and other shocks caused by being out in that a few days after walking around (in Canada) in my shorts. Like an idiot, I was still in them too.

I do apologise, John. We little whippersnappers need a slap on the wrist at times.

Re; Roger's comment about June 1972, I recorded a low max' of 11.6c on the 10th that year but June 1971 was even better with a daytime max' of 8.3c on the 9th; a very low value for a site almost 180m lower than where I now live.
