Bit excited?

:cray:

Anyway... Netweather accumulation radar estimates between 60-80mm. The actual area i was in probably only got hit by about as half as much as we were on the edge of the storm. The heavy area of precip was right over the hills beside us so all of the water came flooding down off the hills and caused the flood.

Very excited :D its all that viagra!

I hope i see storms like that again (today)/tonight

Heavy!

Was there any lightning?

Yep, i saw quite a few cloud to cloud strikes just before we drove into the storm. Saw a few flashes and heard some thunder as we went into it but then we couldn't see or hear much because of the rain :cray:

:D

Yeah, the traffic jams were bad. We got lucky since when the road was shut we had got out of that area you see in the video. I wouldn't of liked to be stuck there for 3 hours not knowing if the water was going to keep rising!

I wish i had Barons, i couldn't even get on wap on my phone to check the radar :(

Here's the skew-t for London ...

post-5986-1245043855_thumb.jpg

I think that it would be very curious if this area did not see t/storms this evening.

As always, target time is rush-hour, tonight, and from looking at the overall picture, the area, most at risk, being that the track of the low is now more easterly, than north-easterly, a line from the North-Downs nortwards. East E Anglia is the main risk area

LI is good at -4, could be lower, I guess, K is superb at 30, TT shows t/storms with scattered severe, and CAPE is high (it is greater than 500 j/kg) Ascent profile is humid all the way up with, perhaps, a handy Tdd at arounf 550hPa to keep things going. Some speed shear present at higher altitudes (to be expected because the jet clips the S/E today)

Interesting that cloud bases (LCL=950hPa)) seem to be getting lower, which, depending on local conditions might present an outside chance within severe cells of some tornadic activity. It is a very low chance, in my opinion, though, although there is a moderate convergence zone pointing at the SE.

Here's my effort at an evening storm risk map (ie 18z to midnight) :

post-5986-1245044548_thumb.jpg

Black is thunderstorms, red is elevated risk of severe. Chances of t/storms increases as temperatures exceed 15C at 18z tonight in the areas highlighted. Once temps dip below 15C, I think it is all over for storm generation, however, existing cells travelling over your area may well rumble into the night.

Happy hunting all. A very interesting weather day for a large swathe of the UK, today.

:)

EDIT: for SE hunters the Herstmonceaux ascent at 12z, today, is crucial!
