Just got back from a visit to creepy Crawley and it's topping out at 28 DgC and it feels mildly humid. Back here in Benny Burgess Hill I can see clouds building towards the Channel but somehow, I'm still not confident that we will get a storm tonight.

I am still crossing fingers for tomorrow though

It's the best time coming up so any afternoon storms should appear shortly, failing that, tonight's activity is the next shot.

I am surprised we haven't seen even a heavy shower yet though.

It's gone a bit like this morning, but with a warm breeze not a cold one.

Gone very messy looking at the moment, no real structure to the clouds.

The altocumulus from earlier , says otherwise B) ( for south east atleast )

I agree - I don't think the atmosphere is really condusive to homegrown stuff this afternoon. Convection about but it isn't really towering.

Elevated storms tonight much more likely - although looking at the trough over France the storms are poorly organised and pulse type with rapid building and decay. The dynamics will change a bit later but I think it is likely to be a scattering of short lived but vigorous cells.

Latest BBC forecast at 16.30 was good, forecasting thunderstorms.

They had all the usual graphics out and even some new ones, well I haven't seen them before anyway, showing the plume of humid air.
