been very still in Reigate all night tonight but looking on the met office website they've recorded a 30mph gust close to me, could this be linked to the impending storms.

Just took a trip (3 hours) from here to Selsey Bill. Thunderstorms were frustratingly out to sea. There was a lot of flashing and a few rumbles but precious few CG visible from land. Started to rain, so had to wrap it up and come home.

Looks like its gonna get to land soon but with daylight only a few hours away, it'll be day time storms for us. Much prefer night time storms.

Keep an eye on the mass now advecting northwards out of france, it's going to make landfall around kent and sussex, before moving up into the london area in next few hours. The front seems to have split with one lot of activity out west, but the most intense area has developed to the SE which METO never forcast. Im guessing as the warm airmass is coming from the east the easterly edge of the front is sucking up all the latent energy

Aye i never thought to look at the latest meto chart, although it appears it was only realeased a while ago. So maybe they'll update the warnings soon as the area further east seems to be intensifying with every radar update. Is this another /facepalm moment ahead as the SE, EA and east midlands get pounded and the original forcasted area misses out

It's not long till the good old current bun makes its daily appearance either, so atmospheric solar heating is only going to pump more fuel into the fire

Well i was asleep with the fan on, which does make quite a noise, but no mistake that was a loud rumble!

The sky is pure white but has a dirty yellow sortof colour to it. I noticed the sky had a blue tinge to it at about 3am.

Edit: area of L. Pressure developing over channel: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/images...00906260300.gif ?

Hmm looks like they will skoot to my SW

Edit again: wow the cloud structure is appearing and it's amazing! torrential rain now typical convective stuff

Got a line of storms just moving over here in Tun Wells from the SE, not very electrically active though rain is pretty heavy.

That storm passing over south Wales last night was amazing - it literally lasted hours over Llanelli, and the thunder-cracks were worthy of any US storm-chasers movie! Striks ever few seconds too... ... just after the most intense part of the storm I parked my car at the beachfront looking south(ish) over the Gower and west over Pembrey... lots and lots of CG strikes to go with the IC's... and the really mad thing? By about 01:00, there were STILL obvious forks of powerful lightning hitting down to the west in clear view. They were so bright that you could swear they were quite close - but in reality were so far away that you couldn't hear the thunder!

Soooo... 5:22 now, and there's a slight orange hue to the sky outside. I know what that is, especially as we don't have air pollution so severe in Llanelli. That's Nitrogen Oxide (after all these hours!). What a night!
