Well........

After my 5 mile run for Charity at about 1:30-2:00 we had a strom which seemed to pass extremly close, no lighting seen but plenty of deep and loud rumbles of thunder with only a small amount of rain but the sky over in the distance was sooooooo dark, Shame nothing major has happened but it is still very Humid.

Dark clouds approaching Nottingham now from the south moving west. Looks promising! Sun is blazing out as well (finally)- Can see the Cirrus tops of thunderheads approaching, but no thunder yet... About to go out with my Anti-sheild axe and smash the Nottingham sheild!!

I think some fast developing storms could form anywhere south of the main area later. Some proper convection happening here now. Will be interested to see if anything kicks off later. Someone from another board said there are new storms forming way south into west france north of spain as well. But I think it will be homegrowns that could pleasantly suprise people later in the evening.

woweeee, real humid here, 22c, but overcast as it's been all day. Few storms now with quite a few sferics to my East.

Comment on the trough line/storms

At about 1000 this morning the trough line or wind convergence area, was roughly Thames to Bristol Channel area

Its now roughly Mersey-Wash

Much of its activity does appear to be shearing from about a direction of 110 degrees but its overall movement is about north.

Just whether it will continue north with a similar intensity is very difficult to judge.

Much may depend, see latest Vis and IR sat piccs on the clear slot between the low cloud/layer cloud from about north Notts north and the layer+deep convection layer associated with the trough itself.

Gone all quiet here again now, only 1 more rumble heard in the last 10mins, allthough the winds picked up a little bit and the clouds are still present. Oddlt though when it was thundering the sky wasn't very dark, the clouds were highly elevated without low dark bases and no rainfall making it to the ground.

Hi Johnholmes

Just a quick question. To the south of the main trough have we lost any trigger for storms for the rest of the day? We seem to have a clear slot with some strong sun, but without any forcing I guess it could be another sunny day.

Will be interesting to see what happens down there over the next 2 hours.

Slightly OT but your guide to Skew-T diags in the Learning forum is missing some links

This might be helpful - although JH's is more in depth - here

have checked and yes there are several which I thought had been correct in 2008.

I need to redo those and will do so but not sure when I'll get a chance to do so but I've put it on my list of 'to- do'

John

Thanks, If you let me know when you've done them, I'll then continue my ejucation, oh all right education

Had 2 very heavy downpours today. The first 1 around 2 hours ago was stair rods for a good 20 minutes must have dumped well over half an inch. And secondly not quite so heavy but still a lot of water. Currently going dark again and very humid and still, but oddly no thunder/lightning.
