    July 1880 was one of the most thundriest months on record.

    Killingholme (Lincs) recorded 14 days of thunder which was described as a remarkable month for thunder, lightning and rain.

    Culford (Suffolk) recorded 13 days of thunder.

    Kew recorded 12 days of thunder.

    Mansfield (Notts) recorded 11 days of thunder.

    Other reports

    Shifnal: A month of thunderstorms and rain, thunder either near or distant on most days.

    Boston: The month has been remarkable for the constant succession of thunderstorms and heavy rain.

    Banbury: An unusual amount of thunder and lightning.

    Manchester: Much thunder and many thunderstorms.

    Llandudno: An unusual amount of thunder from the 12th to 16th.

    Killaloe: Frequent thunderstorms.

    Not surprisingly, it was a very wet month with shallow showery depressions frequent during the month.

    Reminds me of June 1982 which was the most thundery month since I began keeping records in 1963, 10 days with thunder here and just over 172 mm of rain.

    Parts of Leeds, Lawnswood Cemetary was one location I think, recorded just over 300mm of rain that month.

    Yes that was the year when we got the highest ever rainfall in June until June 2006.

    I had two weeks off work the first week hot humid and Thundery and this was when I got a shock from the radiator when there was a close strike of lightning. 2nd week was supposed to be a repeat but didn't happen. Cooler and wet but no storms. Forecast went wrong overnight.
