Invest 92W has been classified as a 25kt tropical depression, just off the coast of Taiwan. Convection has gradually built up over the LLC over the last 24hrs and has become persistant in the last nine. Limited banding features are also visible on latest satellite imagery.

The future for 06W is bleak. Although shear is low and equatorward outflow good, excessive land interaction with Taiwan and then China is likely to prohibit any intensification. A ridge to the northeast will steer 06W northwestwards inland across Taiwan, and then northwards across the coast of China. Taiwan will weaken the depression but the system has a brief window of oppurtunity to recover before the second landfall in China takes place. JTWC are not expecting 06W to get any stronger than 25kts. However, this system now has a lot of convection attached to it and is likely to bring some very high rainfall totals to both Taiwan and eastern China over the next couple of days.

Thanks for posting up that tracking map Cookie. It shows that 06W is now in the Taiwan strait in the stretch of warm water between Taiwan and China. Shear is low and waters are warm, so this has allowed 06W to strengthen to 30kts. If the depression had a little longer over water it would easily become a tropical storm- the deep convection and signs of banding clearly demonstrate that. However, 06W has only a few hours left before it crosses the coast of China. 06W will then rapidly dissipate as it moves further inland.
