Hi all,

I've decided to break my holiday report down into posts for separate days, mainly because there are so many photos to process from my holiday.

My aim is to publish a day's worth of photos/report each day this week, if I have enough time that is.

Anyway, enough of my waffling, enjoy the views :)

Monday was spent travelling to the Lake District, so there are no photographs to show. Therefore I shall start with Tuesday.

Tuesday 7th July 2009

To get an idea of places to visit whilst we were in the Lake District, the first thing we did was to travel to the Lake District Visitor Centre, situated next to Lake Windermere between the towns of Windermere and Ambleside. View of the back entrance of the Visitor Centre:

Several views of Lake Windermere with the Claife Heights hills in the background, taken from the jetty at the Visitor Centre:

Few more from the eastern shores of Windermere, looking northwest:

We then headed to Hawkshead, home of the Beatrix Potter Gallery (which we visited, but no cameras allowed). A photo from the centre of the village however:

And to finish off, a nice weather related picture taken through the windscreen as we drove westwards from Hawkshead to Coniston. Here the Coniston Old Man is shrouded by the cloud bases: :)

More, hopefully, tomorrow evening! :)

Wednesday 8th July 2009

Today we drove some distance from the southern Lakes peninsula (where we were staying in a caravan) to Keswick in the northern half of the Lakes.

The journey offered some really good views of the Cumbrian mountain range and also of the various lakes.

These photos were taken at various places along this stretch of road.

Next installment...

Thursday 9th July 2009

Today we went on a cruise around Lake Windermere and it's islands. The cruise takes 45 minutes and departs from Bowness-On-Windermere.

Bowness:

Nothing like a good scratch in the morning!

Wonderful pictures from my hometown today, we did very well to escape the showers.

I know those swans all to well, they are very cheeky and often steal food whenever they can, I vividly remember when about 10 years old one swan swiped a whole hot dog off me!

Sorry it's late, been really busy recently, so I'm going to post two days worth in one! :)

Thursday 9th July

On Thursday evening, I took a stroll along the coastline of the Cartmel peninsula overlooking Morecambe Bay. The first thing I noticed was the vast quantity of rip rap placed there (large boulders) to protect the adjacent caravan park from flooding (which must be quite a new addition as it isn't on Google maps yet!)

Despite having a great view of Morecambe Bay, it was completely dry! :)

any idea what this building is in the far distance? I suspect it may be Heysham Port buildings?

Friday 10th July 2009

On Friday I visited Lancaster to take a look around, a few pics from Lancaster...

Lancaster Castle, which, to my understanding, is used as a Crown Court as well as for tours? Well that might explain the vast amount of CCTV cameras and barbed wires lining the turrets!

Lancaster Priory, adjacent to the Castle...

and a typical Lancaster street..

DSC_0456.jpg

now we get to Saturday...

Saturday 11th July 2009

Being an avid Liverpool supporter, I had managed to book tickets to a tour of Liverpool Football Club's home ground at Anfield before I travelled back home :D

Come on! The interview rooms aren't really this small are they?? :) :o

DSC_0482.jpg

DSC_0483.jpg

DSC_0486.jpg

Inside the Away Team's changing rooms, which is much bigger than the Home Team's! (as a polite gesture)

DSC_0495.jpg

and inside the all-important Home Team's changing rooms - it was full of the people on the tour! Fortunately I managed to catch a shot with no-one in it! :D

DSC_0524.jpg

DSC_0530.jpg

THE sign! :)

DSC_0533.jpg

DSC_0536.jpg

The Director's and Executive's entrance - very nice! :D

DSC_0539.jpg

and inside the stadium!! :)

The Kop Stand:

DSC_0545.jpg

Centenary Stand on the right, Anfield Road stand far back:

DSC_0546.jpg

Main Stand on left, with the 'Camera Box' (all the cameras used on TV) hanging from the stand roof:

DSC_0547.jpg

Seating in the Kop Stand:

DSC_0564.jpg

DSC_0604.jpg

Hillsborough Disaster Memorial:

DSC_0606.jpg

and the road right outside the front of the stadium - the most run-down road I have ever seen! So many houses boarded-up. Unbelievable to think of the stadium right in the middle of this. :) (Walton Breck Road)

DSC_0613.jpg

and so endeth my holiday in Cumbria, and as a result, my photos :(
