I'm sure there's a thread already on this , ive looked but can't find it..!!

Anyway, yesterday evening an ant colony in my back garden burst into a

frantic frenzy when the 'queen' ants emerged from their underground chambers

and took flight to start colonies of their own.

Bloody ants, keep finding them in our house. We have a nest in the frame of our wooden consevatory. Tried everything to get rid of them.

Try a syringe of diesel inject into the nest, May smell a bit but ants hate it :D

Today is the day here : it's as if they've been sat just beneath the surface waiting for a brief spell that isn't either wet, cool, windy or a mixture of all of those things! The sun broke through around 13.00, the temperature shot up with the humidity staying as high as it had been during a very dull/wet 36 hours, and off they went before 14.30!

Have noticed today a number of Ant colonies appearing.

Havent seen many up until now (apart from the ant runs in our compost bin :))

And a spark might also make it a little too hot.

Our turn today here in Solihull. I have NEVER in all my 39 years seen so many flying ants. I'll enclose a couple of pics below. The second pic was nothing compared to its peak when most of that magnolia wall was semi-black.

Just after 2:30pm, and after three days of miserable weather, the Sun finally shone. I opened the patio door to let some air in as it was still feeling rather humid. 10 minutes later, swarms of the things, and I mean SWARMS!!

It was even worse when I noticed a steady line of them INSIDE the frame of the patio door so out I went, armed with loads of ant powder, a large bucket of water to drown the little gits climbing the walls and the chemical spray warfare against those who had ventured indoors.

ANT CASUALTIES OUTDOORS : Many survived, many drowned, many succumbed to white powder.

ANT CASUALTIES INDOORS : No survivors!! cool.gif

At least they could have let me know. It was like Iraq invading Kuwait back in 1990. Ill prepared.

But on a serious note... I find the annual FLANT Day a bit later than usual this year. Normally occurs around mid-July in my neck of the woods.

Phil. (If you don't like ants, look away now!)
