Lucky so far. The heavy stuff to the NE has perhaps brushed past us. Collected only 9.9mm rain at 9 GMT for previous 24hrs. Still light-mod rain falling. Thankful we've had no big downpours as the fields are already saturated.

Total this month so far is 116.3mm. July 40 yr average is 99.9mm. Record July of fond memory, was 262.2mm, in 2007.

Chilly, only 14.6C. Lightish N wind so far, but contemplating thermals.

Wow i've hardly had any rain at all since yesterday evening, it stopped around midnight and has been mainly dry ever since, just dark and overcast now

I really haven't seen any decent thunderstorms this summer, a very poor summer indeed in more ways than one.

A lot of lightning here - some big forks every few mins and very loud thunder. Best storm in ages!

Steady rain but not especially heavy at the moment.

If the weather must be vile - this is the best kind of vile!

Very strange summer day which staerted with a downpour at first light, became clearer/warm with sunny spells & clouds moving all ways due to the LOW centre, this was followed by torrential downpours with thunder nearby which has been followed by a very gusty NW wind with cloud, temperature struggling at 14.9c but humidity still at 90%!!

Rain still hammering down in County Durham. Lots of localised flooding with road closures.

The River Wear and River Browney have both burst their banks at Durham City although the flooding is nothing special at the moment. I imagine other local rivers are similar.

A drab dull day with light rain at times. All the interesting weather to the north or south of us. Most annoying bit was mid afternoon when a band rain went over us then turned in storms further south. Grrr

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
