Lightning Thursday Night

This was probably the most electrically active night time storm I've seen in a few years but unfortunately there was just a bit too much rain to get any really decent shots. I got the 2 below before the rain arrived and then spent the next 3 hours driving about getting very wet trying to find a gap in the rain without any luck. I did meet Greenday and his brother though which was cool. Always nice to see other chasers out and about!

I hope this helps :good: What I do in the event of rain during a storm, is open a car window at the opposite side of the car I am sitting in and take shots from as far away from the open window as possible, I set the tripod up in the car.

Only caveat is that when the wind hits the car it shakes, so I try and park in sheltered places, within reason

I like that road shot its steady.

wow those pics were exclusively shown to me first... That was after we were parked in a layby on the acle straight waiting for that damn rain to subside, it took forever! Finally meeting each other for the first time on a Great Yarmouth industrial estate enjoying the lightning and rumbles that were going on! :nea: on the other hand my bro was less fortunate in capping lightning as it was processing most of the time when it went off. Hes still learning though

    Thanks for the comments guys!

I have actually 'semi-waterproofed' the camera by sealing a large plastic bag to a lense hood. When the rain starts I can pop the hood on in seconds and the bag fits nicely over the camera. (I made it with copious amounts of duct tape and hot glue so it's properly waterproof!) I then sit in the car in the dry and take shots using a remote shutter release. It's a weird feeling leaving a few hundred £s worth of camera out in the rain though! Unfortunately it doesn't solve the issue of rain on the lense though which is what usually ultimately ruins the evenings fun!
