Weather History For East Atlantic

Hello All, hope I'm in the right place for this question.

What I'm looking for is somwhere we can find weather history, specifically the region west of The Bay of Biscay. We will be sailing to the Canaries from UK soon and would like to build up an idea of roughly what behaviour we can expect from low pressure systems during September and October in order to construct a route plan/best departure date.

Grib files would be great but I have checked FNMOC and Ugrib and as yet they don't seem to have historical archives available!

All info would be very welcome, but please no dire warnings about storms we are sailors and well aware of such things  just don't like to dwell on them!
