We've been away on honeymoon in China for 2 weeks so haven't had much opportunity to watch the weather back in the UK - it sounds as if the last 2 weeks have been pretty mediocre. China was generally hot, humid and wet, with rain nearly every day for us (not completely unexpected, but it did seem to be following us around!)

July 21, Shanghai: The hottest day there for over 100 years at 40 deg C. Mainly sunny, rain in the evening.

July 22, 100km south of Shanghai: Like most others we didn't manage to see the total eclipse - it was in the middle of a thunderstorm where we were. I gather the eclipse track was pretty cloudy generally - we did see a fair bit of the crescent sun through cloud before and after totality but it was becoming obvious that the we were going to be unlikely to see totality. Apparently Shanghai itself and many other parts of the track had continuous rain throughout and saw nothing. Our evening flight to Beijing was delayed 4 hours because of bad weather.

July 24, Great Wall N of Beijing: our only dry day!

July 28-29, Guilin and Yangshuo, Li River: 2 days of tropical downpours and serious river flooding. We managed to get a riverboat trip but many events were cancelled because of the weather.

July 30: Hong Kong: Occasional heavy showers, around 32.

July 31, London: No rain!!!

Start of a new month and what a contrast to how the previous two months started. Its been a wet miserable morning so far, though it is slowly drying out right now.. Augusts CET will not get off to a wacking high mark like June and July, perhaps in the longer term this might be a good thing..

A sunny start after a cool night, minimum 6.2c and 4.5c on the grass. The rest of the day could almost be described as pleasant after the very poor conditions over most of the month. Sunny spells and stayed dry until early evening when more light rain arrived in the area. Maximum temperature 19.5c. Maximum wind gust, 21mph, S.

A much better start than forcast, warm with sunny spells, current temp is 23.9c and it humidd too. As of yet, no rain.

More cloud than a few hours ago, the lunchtime BBC forecast seemed to push the rain slightly more south so although its still expected to hit it might be later in the afternoon rather than early afternoon. Temp is currently 20.3c, peaked at 21.4c at 11.30 - just before the cloud started to build.

Grey, cloudy and rather cool here with misty conditions and drizzle until about 10am this morning, since then cloudy with a brief heavyish bit of rain about 20 minutes ago. Hopefully it should improve a bit this afternoon though

Since about 10:30am when the wind changed to the NW (and i started receiving temp data again, after about an hour with no data!) temperature has been around/just under 15C. Before about 9:30am it was about 16C

A thoroughly depressing day more akin to November with low cloud, mist, persistent drizzle with heavier bursts of rain, temperature of 15.9c (although somehow it reached 17.8c earlier) and humidity at 86%.
