OMG!! The worst rain I've seen for a while!! Torrential Rain and I mean torrential rain, looked like Mosoon Rainfall, adding large amount to the 60mm of rain that have fallen since Monday, otherwise till now 18mm of rain has fallen since midnight last night - The only odd thing is that there is no wind, I could also see some Anvils towards the Irish Sea an hour ago - also report of flooding in local area. Nasty.......

Hi,

You seem to get a lot more rain than this site nearby:

My link

I was staying with friends in Mynydd Llandegai last week, I remember you had 40mm or so one day while the above station was below 20mm that day.

is it me or does the rain across the country seem to be loosing its intensity in general..

I can see the moon now through the clouds here with no shower's to follow :girl_devil:

I can see the moon now through the clouds but I think a bit further North some of the rain, especially over bits of Wales dont seem to be loosing intensity.

Infact, looking at the radar over South Wales, some rain seems to have just popped up from no where.

Hmm ..in Brighton too and the wind and rain seems to have just dropped in last five mins. It may have changed direction and I will take a look in a mo. It may be a lull. Still some gusts but not full on. Need to access the radar and find out why this is..only just joined the forum tonight so need to catch up!

well I think it's a non event..just my opinion..

Unless the showers up north explode into action or the South East..

And yes to me its lost its intensity..

Hope fully something will spark off later...or Im just clutching at straw's

Plenty of showers here this evening, but nothing too heavy.

anyhoos, back on topic, has anyone had a storm at all today...I've been keeping an eye on various UK lightning detectors, and have only noticed the very odd sferic, the most recent showing up a few minutes ago, just off the kent coast (there does seem to be an arc of pretty hefty showers pushing through Kent/Sussex at the moment)

Had some fairly persistent and heavy rain over the past few hours, and very sporadic strong gusts of wind. Came out of the pub earlier, and an umbrella blew across the entrance, JUST missing my mate - then dead calm again - very odd feeling sort of evening in that respect!!

At the moment is raining very lightly, but there is no wind at all - not evening brief gusts! I am presuming that at present we are still fairly snuggly within the central area of rotation around the LP - my blinds will probably be screaming at me in the early hours lol.

Shame there appears to have been very minimal/zero electrical weather - I know odds were low anyway, but I thought some areas may have got lucky! I suppose the next few hours could develop something, but radar is not looking very convincing (Weather09 will be rather pleased with his earlier predictions :girl_devil: )

JL - thanks a lot for the PM earlier - shame it appears it was more a hope than an expectation in the end

Still though, this depression has got to veer away and take some fairly strong winds with it - in the wake of the front I would be rather hopeful of there being some fairly convective weather over the coming 24 hours, though with that kind of setup it is virtually impossible to be sure who will get what (and when)

Am still keen on the charts for later next week, which are indicating a substantially warmer spell of weather, bringing with it periods of convective potential for quite a few.

Let's hope that some of us may get some thunder later :80:

Just to wade briefly in on this negative post rating system - I do think it is being abused! I will no doubt get a minus mark (or more) for this post from some of the fans of the "oooh I don't like you so instead of telling you to your face or via PM I am going to give you minus points herherher" craze, but quite frankly I don't care! I come on this forum due to my passion for the weather, a passion which drives most of my family and friends to tears! I find it disappointing that a genuine system of rating posts based on their accuracy and content is being abused through pettiness and immaturity! I do like it, and think it is a good indicator for new users in particular, who the most 'accurate' and/or 'credible' posters are. I myself know full well I spout nonsense at times (or most of the time, lol), but hey ho, I do in the vain people will correct me, and thus I will learn about what I am discussing!

Hey ho - I just don't want a great forum to be wrecked by pettiness, when at present it's a bloody awesome site!!

I know what you mean Pat! frustrating is todays thought for the day...lol....well, totally clutching at straws, there's still some messy convective stuff over Wales being dragged north eastwards along the southern flank of the LP centre, maybe it will spring to life, cold dry air aloft might help this, (lapse rates still look good, quite a steep temp gradient) you never know! and maybe the odd flash & bang in the SE as those heavy showers pass through ...ok, ok, I am clutching at straws :)

I will send you pics from Spain of the Storm'S NOT....LOL...the CAPE dies down when I get there :) ..giveup,giveup..get a new interest..lol

It was extremely high but fading now..

yes who know's something might spark off still in the UK

Anyway, back to this evening. I think Brickfielder made a good point earlier when he was referring to the conditions this evening, and if they were in June, with much higher surface temps and better insolation, it may have turned out better this evening. The lack of CAPE and the actual CAPE release tells it all.

R

I think BF's post, and his storm/convective technical forecasts the past 24 hours have been spot on....Thats why he's a forecaster, and us but mere mortals! :)

that messy stuff over wales earlier is now developing into a more organized area of deep convective cloud circulating around the southern flank of the LP centre (must be high and very cold cloud tops looking at infra-red satellite imagery) so looks like it could be a wet and possibly thundery night ahead for wales & Midlands
