The rain's back here now; 34.2mm since midnight. I wonder what tonight and tomorrow brings?

In a word for Cumbria more of what today brought only worse.

We had heavy rain early this morning, however, we were spared further heavy deluges for most of the rest of the day thankfully! The rain has started up again in the past couple of hours, if the forecasts are right we won't expect to see it relent now until Friday morning. The predictions of potential for nearly 10 inches over the hills is quite scary indeed, lets hope we don't see anywhere near as much otherwise major flooding will be on the cards. These are miserable and very worrying times here in the Lake District. Memories of Jan 2005 spring to mind and we certainly do not want to see a repeat of those conditions, the most worrying thing is we don't seem to be getting a respite with some further very heavy deluges on Saturday likely spelling more misery. I want to hibernate!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
