375mm confirmed if I have that figure correct

this seems an impossible amount of rain to fall in 36 hours. it must have been thundery rain the whole time. that would be impressive in the tropics, let alone Cumbria. I am suprised there have not been landslides in the lake district with that amount of ground waterlogging.

Excellent explanation from Tomasz Schafernaker as too why the rain was so intense. Left Sophie completely baffled on Lunchtime news.

Too add insult to injury the same front could only produce 2.6mm of rain here as it passed.

Yes, 'a body in uniform', so almost certainly

the policeman.

Awfully sad.

What the hell are those sightseers on? Do they think it's some movie and not really happening? The policeman deserves the highest award the nation can offer, a very brave man.

I've waded through a mere 9" of flood water and trust me, it's freezing cold, fast moving and you don't want to stay in it for more than a minute. Keep as far away as possible from it.

People do do silly things. We don't know when the bridge was declared unsafe or whether it had been signposted as such and people were still on it ignoring the signs. It may have only just had been declared unsafe and the officer was dispatched to clear people to safety.

probably . people are often totally oblivious to real danger even when it's right in front of them , particularly in a group of gawpers.

if you fell in there you'd be swept away to certain death.

They really want to get out more (at an appropriate time)… you don't see Americans (where they have extreme weather more often) acting so stupidly.

Pc Barker was a father of four with 25 years' service. No excuses for those idiots IMV,

People who do good deeds, save lives usually don't get awards... especially from the queen!

She only gives awards to actors, celebs or people who do sports!.

If we knew it would be this bad, surely authorities in Cumbria knew?

Imagine if it was North Yorkshire that was affected. It would've tested their flood defenses for sure.

I'm sure they knew but, given the scale of the event, what action could they have taken? If they'd told people to evacuate early, would they have done? As the event was beyond the scale of anything in living memory, people would have real difficulty percieveing just how much risk they are in.

Yes, a nice presentation, lotsof rainfall totals and the radar sequence is an excellent idea.

Interesting presentation.

Still wondering, would the county have been burried if all the rain fell as snow?

Not got much time to look in depth at the moment, but I just flicked through the netweather forecast for Keswick for the week. Tuesday and Wednesday look terrible and not great on the other days either.

She only gives awards to actors, celebs or people who do sports!.

She awards whoever Gordon Brown has recommended. Kings and Queens don't have much say in anything anymore, ever since the Civil War, apart from gallantry awards for the Armed Services — they are still her prerogative I think.

Anyone on here heard of the Brown Curse? Where did he spend his summer holidays this year?

A: Cockermouth and the Lakes.

Interesting figures so it looks like 24hr record is safe. Once again it looks like constant rainfall without any chance of the ground drying out which was the biggest problem.
