Within this thread you can ramp to your hearts content - so if you're feeling undeniably optimistic that 1987 mark 2 is on the way and you're about to have 2 feet of snow dumped on your doorstep for no particular reason other than a random chart at t+3000 hours, then post away

lol the only thing i`m ramping is a change to a more settled regime, great news for people who go outdoors like country walkers so the countryside has time to dry up and for people who like boating/fishing smile.gif

Yes also for people who work outside like myself! rolleyes.gif However i do dream of a severe spell coming up to xmas cold.gifsmiliz23.gif

Good idea to this thread, so the model output discussion isnt full of ramping! Im confident of a cold spell towards the end of next week, and at least dry weather. Snow may not come for a while yet though

Wouldnt it be nice though to do some christmas shopping in the snow rather then bloody rain at +8c

Very 'unseasonal' I know but different

21st December 1979 last time I went xmas shopping in a blizzard (snow all gone by 23rd)

I'm expecting those penguins any minute....:D

Southerly winds from The Antarctic, surely the last thing we want, unless the penguins are from Edinburgh Zoo. :o

perhaps the location of the poles has just switched?yahoo.gif

Anyway, all the talk of it downgrading to feb '05 seems odd to me - we got lots of snow then, and with more cold pooling to our northeast, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few feet come xmas day!cold.gifcold.gif

What? Somebody had to start the ramping instead of the fairly conservative optimism in the rest of these posts!

I am keeping calm about any potential very cold snowy weather, however, I will ramp up the prospects of a settled dry spell, something we have not had since early-mid October. We could really do with a good spell of dry weather, the ground is still rain sodden in the Lake District and river levels and lakes are still fairly high, a continuation of the wet weather is not going to do the local landscape any good whatsoever or help with the clean up of the floods.

Many in Cumbria will be relishing the prospects of the upcoming dry weather. If it is accompanied with some severe cold all the better and some snow to throw in to the mix even more so, but just dry weather is something to rant and rave about after the abominal wetness of recent weeks.

What, only looking forward to 2 feet of the white stuff, what about 2 metres of the deliciously dry white stuff - now that is really wishful thinking, though if the "North Atlanic Conveyer" stops we could get this on a regular basis. The only problem is that the summers will be a bit naff. Come to think of it I would rather have lovely dry warm summers!

Another pleasing run from the GFS, shall we start arranging the funeral for the modern era now or tomorrow?

You are right, just tried all sorts of things.

When does your term end? If you aren't quick you could be snowed in!!

I can't imagine a Norfolk Terrace Room with snowdrifts outside. When I was at UEA ( a long time ago) we had one winter that was so cold the broad froze end to end. Odds on it this year? low probably

I hold my head in shame, I went in to full ramp mode at work this morning. Telling everyone that it's going to be bitter cold with snow before Christmas.

They all looked at me, as if to say nutter. I quickly shuffled back to my desk muttering to myself.

The thing is, it's not the first time I've done this. And we all know when synoptics like this appear previously, it's not ended with me having the last laugh.

It's got to happen one day, right???

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
