Snowing lightly here this morning, but it started off as light rain, despite both the air temp and the dew point being below freezing.

    Big white fluffy flakes.

Unusual "snow inversion" taking place in East Cumbria. Snow moderate at times lying in Brough area.

    Snow falling/lying in the Eden Valley 500ft ( in < 0C inversion )

Climbing out the valley snow cover/falling disappears to 2000ft.

Snow above this again as GDF is -0.8C at 0600z

Back in Teesdale shrs sleety in nature, breeze from NE

    Temp 1.7C

Now, I imagine we're all going to do better than this over the next few weeks, but it goes to prove, just because the forecasst doesn't say snow....

Nice pics OON...It's nice to see so-many 'entities' this early in the season! :)

Light, fine sleet/snow now in Norwich. It looks and feels like rain, but it is coating grassy surfaces in snowflakes (as distinguished from the slight frost we had this morning). So, since snowflakes don't come out of thin air I assume it must be sleety snow.

Belated post from me regarding the day's snow in Reigate...

It started snowing around c.11am fairly lightly for about 2 hours before turning sleety - this covered the grass and a few roofs. It then turned back to snow for around an hour at 3pm and this did start to cover pavements etc... by the time I walked home through Priory Park it was turning sleety again and as I type, most of the light covering of snow has no disappeared...

Quite a few snow flurries already this morning, settling on all (very icy) surfaces at home in Rushden when I left for work, but not sticking here in Bedford town centre.

Moderate snow shower in MK. Clouds came over very fast, from clear to dark clouds in less than 10 minutes.

Sleet shower at 8am (ish) this morning with snow flakes mixed in. Feels like its getting colder - tonight if the stream of lake effect snow showers off the north sea is as predicted I could well be waking up to 4inches
