We got 3'' of fresh snow overnight which fell in a short space of time, from 0300-0500hr. This snow came dowm from the north-east. Fife was not supposed to get snow according to the weather forecasts yesterday and because of this the council gritters/ploughs were unprepared.

Currently snowing, lightly over past 45 mins, but now much bigger flakes & settling readily. Temp -1oC. Hopefully stay cold enough for another few cm. Radar shows some much heavier stuff coming from the South immenently ;o)

The area of snow just to the south of Cleadon at 3-4am largely fizzled out as it got here, but gave a dusting. Currently rain though.

In comparison to the actual temperatures we've had in this spell which are quite impressive for so early in the season, the snow has been rather whimperish.

21st: 2cm from lines of overnight showers

22nd: 0.5cm from more overnight light showers and a few afternoon ones

24th: 0.25cm or around there from an unknown surprise overnight fall, but following rain yesterday

Better luck next time I say.

A further light covering of snow here this morning which fell in the early hours and some more snow later in the morning which was quite heavy at times with huge flakes.

A very festive christmas eve.

Still several inches of snow on the ground.

Less cold today, max 2.7C- highest for a week, so a slight thaw. We've also had a wintry mix of sleet, wet snow and ice pellets since 1030h-1400hr.

Does sleet falling count as a white Xmas????

We have showery stuff earlier this morning, most of it was light and of rain. However, there was a moderate burst of sleety rain at 0900hr when i was doing my observation.

Had 30 mins of pretty heavy snowflakes falling at about 20:00, meaning that it was infact a white Xmas here afterall. Lots of snow still lying, however temps appear to be climbing (1.8oC @ present) Thaw appears to be setting in

Rain heading south through Cleadon has contained sleet on its northern flank.

Continuous sleet/wet snow since 2200h/26th until 1200h/27th. The rainfall equivalent is 16.0mm in the 24 hours up to 0900hr today. There was heavy sleet around 0130hr, which turned to snow. When I looked out my window at 0500hr, the ground was white with fresh snow. At 0730h, more sleet but it turned to wet snow for an hour. It settled on my windowsill briefly. From 0830h onwards, it was mostly moderate rain/sleet with sleet/wet snow in heavier bursts from time to time.

4 inches overnight giving a total depth of 8 inches, the most here since the turn of the millenium.

I don't live far from you, plus i live higher up, and yet nowhere near 4 inches here. I don't understand it. O the higher ground, 1km north of here, at 200m, about 5cm settled overnight bringing the total average depth to 15cm.
