I am sure the snow will come but will it last until Christmas? Only had one proper white xmas in 2004 and five or six days can make a difference........but having said that I do hope this potential fall will give us a proper covering and not just a dusting. :yahoo:

That is the problem, Gilly...Sometimes it lasts (happens in the first place?) and sometimes it doesn't!! :(:(:(:(:(:D:D:cray:

Hi folks,

I've not been online long to catch up, but did anybody get the freezing rain this morning? There is still ice on the ground here from it!

If these charts verify my commute is going to be a bit of a pain this week

We had some fine grains of snow at 394' in Falkirk followed by rain which froze on contact not good. Soon thawed out when temps rose.

Same here Ross, pavements and roads were horrendous this morning. Mother in law took a fall on icy pavement this morning and has a broken arm, still not back from hospital as aparently there was a 6 hr wait in A&E and they were asking people to go home if injuries werent serious! Think it has been like this across most of Lanarkshire.

Whole of Scotland under snow!

prectypeuktopo.png

Hello from dull and damp Prestonpans, East Lothian. Im in the same boat as Shuggee what with the lack of snow. We really need the winds from the East or NorthEast to have a chance. Usually the northerly winds dump the snow in Highlands and then there's nothing left for us, doesn't help that we are on the coast of the Forth too

Lets hope those charts above come off, off this weekend so a snow bonanza would be very welcome :whistling:

Aye, it was very slippery this morning, but nowhere near as bad as the freezing rain last year. Do you remember that one?!

Yep, very disappointed event as we were forecast 6 inches of snow but instead got horrendous icy rain, all the hazards of snow but without the scenery or day off! Anyway, just hope the charts turn out right, because if so, we could be looking at a snowfall event to remember!

I do indeed, that was a strange day! Crashes and falls around every corner!

It wasn't that icey in Edinburgh this morning, I think the frost had melted there by the time the rain moved in :good:

No, they're not, they're usually right when saying rain when all the rest are hopecasting snow. I'd remain pessimistic (it's my nature) for a good dumping (it's my constitution) until the very last. I remember last year at some point all the world was expecting snow, then suddenly it all just vanished into some embarrassing synoptic black hole that not even the wizzkids in the model discussion thread could explain.

Stay sane and you might just see a dusting!

Fair enough, but their website seems to say something totally different altogether!

Bright intervals and scattered showers on Wednesday these merging into a more prolonged spell of sleet or snow on Thursday.

Just had a chance to have a quick read through and it still seems snow is a distinct possibility then. Like Superrangers not sure if we're far enough inland to catch this snow properly but lets hope so! I have a new sledge and 2 kids who can't wait to see the snow.

Looks like BBC just going for rain here thurs and sleet only on friday. Although these 5 day forecasts should always be taken with a pinch of salt!!!! Preferably to dust on the snow covered path!!

Indeed, the beeb are all over the place for Thursday/Friday, oddly not for the amount of precip but for the type! I reckon any precipitation after 6am on Thursday in the east is likely to be of snow, and I think the beeb will show this as we move closer to the time: they do tend to be quite cautious when forecasting these events!

BBC has Falkirk down for above average temperatures and mixture of sunshine and rain even though their Wednesday to Friday text reads:

Wednesday to Friday

Bright intervals and scattered showers on Wednesday these merging into a more prolonged spell of sleet or snow on Thursday. Scattered wintry showers on Friday.

I fail to see how we could possibly have snow with temps of around 6C :)

Looking good for Scotland on the 18z. Easterly is further N and a bit more potent, should be plenty of showers hitting the east and possibly through the central belt. Uppers getting plenty cold enough to lift snow out of the long sea track!

Very good 18Z, weather warnings may even be needed for eastern areas!

I dunno, i'm getting a bit nervous about this set-up. Time and time again, when a northerly is forecast, this area does badly. We will be cold yes, but I hope not snowless!

I have seen it far too often. Perhaps any fronts etc which materialise may compensate this time however. We will see. : :cold:
