I shouldn't worry, you may be wading through substantial amounts of it in the next few days!!!! :acute:

Why thank you Coast, I'll look forward to that.

Just been outside for a looksee. There is something falling, but it's very fine and if I were truthful I'd probably say it were rain...but it might have been sleety if I squinted a bit. lol

Britain braced for 6ins of snow as cold snap continues

Up to six inches of snow could fall later this week in parts of Britain after a bitterly cold night where temperatures in London dropped to 23F (-5C). It is unlikely there will be enough to make a snowman in most places but rural areas of the South East may see between almost an inch of snow today and more at the weekend.

Paul Mott, forecaster at MeteoGroup UK, the weather division of the Press Association, said temperatures dropped to 21F (- 6C) in some rural areas overnight. Light sleet and snow flurries are expected in the South East this afternoon, he said, with drizzle and rain in the warmer North. Tonight will also be cold, he said, although increased cloud cover will prevent temperatures falling as low.

More snow flurries are expected in central and eastern areas of the UK tomorrow with rural parts of Kent and East Anglia the most likely locations for a snowball fight. ''There could be up to 10 or 15cms (4-6ins) of snow,'' warned Mr Mott.

More snow is expected later this week with many areas seeing a dusting of flakes by Saturday night. ''It's looking bitterly cold for at least a week,'' he said, adding that it was too early to predict whether it will be a white Christmas.

Haha, after the big headline, the first line reads

"It is unlikely there will be enough to make a snowman in most places"

Yeah, I've always had trouble making snowmen in 6 inches of snow, its no where near enough.

That was without fear of contradiction the most pathetic amount of snow I have ever had the misfortune to witness.

The precip is strengthening to the south of the main front which is a good sign, probably won't be much snow north of the weak band developing in Norfolk. Cloud cover is increasing quite rapidly and temps rising quite steadily though dew points are still pretty decent.

The GFS 06z run is quite impressive for East anglia and the SE, esp Eastern Kent and also Norfolk, could well be some very decent snowfalls, we have a front that stalls more or less over our region and only slowly tilts round as it pulls southwards and so the 5-10cms is quite possible from that event on its own.

I suspect it may well become snow if it falls a little heavier.

Dont expect really any real snow from this front in the SE today. Sleet at best.

It was snowing lightly at 8am. It is now raining and im 250asl. I thought this would at least be falling as sleet.

Yep not really surprising, as soon as your past the band that now developing from S.Norfolk westwards then the snow will likely turn to sleet and rain as the warm front raises dew points.

Sadly the timing isn't great for this event, had this been overnight then I fully suspect there would have been quite a bit more snow about.

The problem for those of you who have got rain is the front died out and is only just starting to to show signs of pepping up again, the warm front is looking quite potent...so the front has passed through your location and was really weak and so you've seen your profile tmeps rise but without any precip of note.

Proper snow - tomorrow afternoon/evening right throught the night and Friday! And probably even more at the weekend! Really good chances for EA and SE over next fe days...anything today is a bonus!

And i understand people begrudging it, but Im just happy to see my first few flakes of the winter...no its not special...but that all comes from tomorrow afternoon onwards! Be positive!

I tried looking for the relationship between DP, RH, and Theta-W(E). Boy oh boy, this lot is going to be one hell of a spreadsheet!

On topic - I wouldn't expect too much today as, as I've said, the Theta-W value have only popped in for a quick visit, today, just to mention that they're going to sleep over Thursday night, so please get the booze in :D

Normal caveats apply - thicknesses, intensity of precipitation etc, can modify the best 'theoretical' forecast, so some will see snow; but it should be shortlived, and melt away rapidly on man-made surfaces.

The beauty of Thurs/Fri is that it appears that the it will have no option but to snow! First time I've ever seen it look like that.

The MetO have just updated their warning for tomorrow!

They now think there will be an increased risk now to the whole South east corner.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_warnings.html?day=2

There is a moderate risk of severe weather affecting eastern parts of England. Rain showers will turn increasingly to snow, especially during the late afternoon and evening. Accumulations of up to 5cm are likely with perhaps 10cm over hills.
