Hi everyone,

I was rather disappointed (but not surprised) when I woke up to only around an inch of snow this morning.:) It seems that I was situated (East Herts) between the two bands of preciptation, so I just missed out on the real fun!:unknw:

It's great to read so many snowy stories on here.:yahoo:. It looks like we might all be in for a few more surprises in the coming week too (fingers crossed).:)

Matt.

Yep, below freezing here at the moment, the sun is melting some snow though were it's been on it for a while.......

The sun doesn't seem that strong up the road in Luton. Snow doesn't seem to be melting either....

I hope there is more to come :)

Likely to be orographic forcing (lay of the land influencing precipitation) or just sheer bad luck.

Excellent post and explains exactly what happened last night, the hilly areas received the highest snowfalls, as the PPN drifted across, uplifting occurred and quickly intensified the snowfall.

Snow is only slowly melting here but we do tend to be a little milder then most places, should still be about for the eveing hours I'd imagine, esp if the band to the north tops it up, would be nice to see it last till Saturday's band of snow...

UPDATE!

Philip Avery on the news channel just now, suggested that places that missed out last night i.e. East Kent, may well see heavy snow tonight, heads up Darren, Steve etc

Seems to be an organised band of snow heading towards the Thames Estuary.

You can see it forming off the dutch coast on this link:-

http://www.meteox.com/h.aspx?r=&jaar=-3&soort=satradar

Watch the flow and you'll get an idea of where it should hit land.

Wonder if this will kick start a Thames streamer ???

Snow still coming down hard.

After a slow start last night must have around 4inches but difficult to tell due to the wind blowing the snow around last night.

Hi Eye, you had more than me last night but it is really hammering down here now. Ooooooooooooooo!

Shame - I'm heading here from very snowy Kent down to London a little later today, would have been nice to see some snow there too :)

Well that journey into London is quite frankly incredible!

Got to Leigh On Sea Station on the way beautiful scenes with kids sledging down the hills, Trees with Snow all the way up their bark, traffic lights with snow splattered all over them with just the lights that can be seen, some roads impassable around here. The train got to Basildon and it drops from about 12cm to around 4cm, by the time it rolled into Upminster there was hardly anything left, arrived at Southwark in the city and not a spec of snow anywhere.

I really hope some of the Locals around Leigh On Sea get some snaps as it looks like a Swiss Alpine Village

Hey Everyone

Well what a real treat for me in South Herts.

Woke up to a very tasty 5 inches, beautiful blue skys right now at temp of -1 and no sign of that snow melting.

Hoping for some more snow tomorrow night.

The band across North of the East Midlands and N EA will not move very far TBH.

By the time it makes it to the home counties it would have died of death.

Im really excited about tomorrow night, Council saying another 5cms Saturday night across Home counties and SE.

Looking very interesting, I'll certainly have to keep an eye on it as it may make getting to work rather tricky, was interesting enough last night with the heavy snow!

Anyway you can see the system now pulling SSE so a good chunk of this region is going to get some more snow in the next few hours, well worth watching!

Interesting. Same sort of flow that gave us a pasting here last night/this morn...

Surely not again? That would be unprecedented in the even larger teapot.

Unbroken blue sky here in SW London. Cold but currently clear as far as the eye can see in all directions. One just gets a sense after years of weather watching that this is just not the time for this location... Sky has never looked qite 'right' and wind direction always looks that bit 'misaligned'. Make sense?

This is incredible. I went to bed as that big band was rotating into position over me and I wrote that I thought I was in line for some carnage over the next few hours. I woke up and we've been pasted. 7 inches on south eastern (sun exposed and leeward side) side lawn. 8 inches on windward north side lawn. Drifts above this. We're swimming in snow here.

Thats quite interesting as I've still got a decent covering and I'm not that far from Upminster...will be interesting to see how much this next band gives, News 24 weather forecast suggested as much as 10cms is possible from this band coming down...hopefully it can hold off till after dark!

I'm also very interested in observing the front on Saturday eveing.
