Perhpa we should go for the 'no' record in this cold slap????

We have almost 0.003mm of snow so far and it's thretening to slightly bend my cobweb outside the back door!!

I really don't know how much more 'no' we cant take here in North Warwicksire....at least we have better castles than you other inferior folk!!!!!

Well that was all a bit rubbish, about 2cm of snow and now its milder than its been in the past 48 hours, up at 0.9C. A very slight thaw setting in.

Exactly the same thing here! Except not even 2cm

If i was that little firther Southeast i would have been in the chance of having an hours worth of moderate to heavy snow........instead though I got 5mins of heavy snow and the rest was crap, all for being that much further Northwest....darrrrrrrn it :( just makes me want to scream! lol

EDIT: Btw, it happens on many occassions and i really don't know why!! ?

From what I have read on this forum, I think the Birmingham area and the Black Country (Dudley, Oldbury etc) have done pretty ok in this. I have an inch of snow and been for a drive and it seems there is a general fall of 2cm around the area so all in all not bad.

Was quite an impressive snowfall in terms of intensity for us.

Kind Regards, hgb

Yep, Dudley, Stourbridge and over to South Birmingham did very well. Nearby Kidderminster and Stourport mostly had rain! Very localised but we did very well out of it. :wallbash:

The intensity was amazing for about 20 minutes! HUGE flakes. :D

Probably had about 30 minutes of moderate snow, and 30 minutes of light stuff. At least Friday's snow remains intact, 12cm undisturbed, if you include tonights disappointment. Expecting some massive icicles forming overnight as the temperature drops back below freezing. Today is looking mostly dry, though I suppose you couldn't rule out a light shower sneaking down the Cheshire Gap. But any snow into next week looks on the marginal side. This is why I want to hold onto this snow cover, because it seemed to make a huge difference in February when we got bucketloads despite 850s of -3 or -4C, compared to surrounding areas that were snow free.

Yeah, Birmingham is a big place mind. North Birmingham have only got a slight dusting out of this so not good at all. Resembles more of a severe frost, than actual snow cover in places. But yeah, other places not too far away have probably got about an inch of snow, so not a total loss.

Just been reading up on the snowstorm affecting the east coast of the U.S, with 22" expected to fall in Baltimore, Washington. Extreme conditions taking place over there at the moment. Back to here, and you have severe weather warnings for 2" of snow.

I know! Unbelievable! :o

Oooooh what id give for 22inches of the white stuff! :D

Didn't realise Somerset was in the Midlands? That's a new one. Enjoy your snow though.

You can tell the interest has waned... but from a max of 0.9C about an hour ago, it is on the fall now despite still overcast skies, down to 0.4C so will become very tricky round here with just the minimal amount of thawing. Also some showers over Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire look like they might make it through. Not much on them i'd expect.

Temperature has now fallen down to -0.2C and a light flurry of snow again... huzzah. Slight sign of those showers just pepping up a little - if you look at the current wind direction there is a very weak convergence zone with winds running WNW against NW. More of interest to those in the East of the East Midlands. Shame we have no correspondants from Rutland, because i'd imagine somewhere like Uppingham at 500ft must have quite a fair bit of snow really. Its not too shoddy here, but Rutland must have done better.

Mind you, I may as well be talking to myself. Clearly tonights poor show has upset a lot of people.

-1.2 here, seems to be dropping away, supposed to be -6 at 9am, brrrrr :yahoo:

Showers coming nowhere near me, too far north

Oh and mackerel, what happens from the convergence zone then?

If you look at that arm that is east of Leicester, that has pepped up a tad. We have nice big fluffy snowflakes falling here. Unfortunately for areas to the west it is over for tonight. Even in Northampton which is 15 miles west they won't have caught these showers - I now expect the best part of an hour out of this. Certainly papering over the cracks of the slight thaw when temps got above freezing midnight-2am.

We are very spawny here really with the snow. Infact the snow falling now is the heaviest i've seen all night. Its moderate and -0.5C. Ho-ho-ho. Didn't expect this.

morning all. well as expected, it looks like snow is going to struggle to make it into our patch today with most of the showers hugging northern and western coasts, and penetrating across to parts of west yorkshire and the far northern fringes of the midlands. for the most part though, its probably just a clear sunny day, with temperatures recovering somewhat to 1 or 2 degrees celsius, so a thaw for those with snow is most likely. looks like the models yet again want to prolong cold, albeit fairly dry weather, until after christmas at least, so still no real sign of a breakdown on the horizon as of yet, though the models could fairly quickly pick one up if they wanted. still of interest is the fact northern heights are still being predicted on the ecm this morning, perhaps setting us up for a reload after christmas.

People were saying snow for Monday, BBC were saying for it to be heavy for me. Hmmm, seems to have dissapeared on Netweather and BBC, from the update of the 00Z run. Temps seem to be forecast a little higher too! :yahoo:

I think we'l get a cheshier streamer today , the showers are goin to get intense and prolonged and with a strong northwest/westerly wind i think we stand the best chance we'v had since the cold snap began really.

i admire your optimism, and i truly hope you are right, but the showers seem to be hogging the coasts at the moment, and they have a loong way to go and will probably lose their intensity by the time they reach us. also most of the precip is streaming from antrim down through to southern parts of cumbria and through lancashire, with only a few showers on the northern welsh coast atm.

I have to say tho , this cold spell , what a let down for the mids in general . Iv spent the last 2wks telling clients at work we'r in the snowiest period since the 1980's , couldnt of been more wrong . Im just glad its december and not feb . Every year i say im goin to move to where is more favorible for snow , maybe north-east , sunderland , hull , newcastle ect , but its doin it which is the hard part and its such a big step . Anyway thats enough of me i sound like jeremy kile !!!!!!
