Most of our best snow periods in the south of wales have been when a low comes up from the south and bumps into cold air -

Easterlies don't tend to deliver because of the travel required for the showers to get over land

Northerlies struggle as well because of the mountains in north and mid wales

Westerlies struggle with temperature over the Atlantic ocean

so we are just left with a southerly low hitting cold air

Yup I'd agree with that.

We had a huge snowfall here in Feb 07 when a low from south hit the cold air and dumped snow on us for 2 days.

Snow showers beefing up in North Wales. Not going to trouble the South though.

Awaiting showers to come off the Bristol Channel please.

Showers are even magicaly disappearing over us from North Wales only to re-appear in South West England (probably the channel reinvigorating them) - seems we aren't the lucky ones right now - but when the conditions are right normally we get all the snow and everyone else doesn't get any!!

I'm afraid it was - the low up in the north of Scotland at the moment is dragging the winds round to a more westerly direction which is why tonight as the low comes further south there may be showers coming in off the west coast and along the channel for south wales - GFS was showing this for a while now

west to east direction then!

If the showers work their way up the Bristol Channel later thisevening and overnight, then would i be right in saying i could have a fair chance of getting some snow showers tonight? or would that be a bit to hopeful? temp 3.4c and falling, dewpoint 0.8C.

It's possible - GFS is just coming out now and showing shower activity between about 12 midnight and 6 in the morning with temps about right - more showers through Monday but the temps and dps might be just too high for snow
