Weather warning and a watch for christmas eve and day. Looks like we might get a white christmas after all

Weather Warning

Issued 15:00

Heavy snow showers. Icy Conditions

Heavy snow is expected to affect Northern Eastern and Western areas this evening. a further 2 - 5 cm is likely widely and up to 5 - 10 cm in some places.

icy conditions are also affecting all areas of Northern Ireland. The public are advised to take care on untreated roads and allow extra time for your journey

Disruption to travel networks is still likely with snow and ice still on the ground.

Weather Watch

Issued 15:00

Heavy Snow

There is a high risk of a severe weather event affecting most parts of Northern Ireland on Thursday and into Friday. heavy snow will move northwest overnight christmas eve and into christmas day. 10 - 15 cm with up to 20 cm over high ground is possible from this event.

We are watching this very closely and will update this warning throughout the week.

Yea, we've had very little compared to you lot up the road. Saying that we had quite moderate snow there for about 45mins which gave a slight dusting.

The band of precipitation moving south has again been good for people living with a bit of elevation. At Sea level or not much above conditions have been marginal/the wrong side of marginal for snow.

According to the GFS charts for today we haven't had -5 or lower uppers. Although temps have remained cold by day, to date here certainly they havent dropped far at night at all (barely below freezing) . Temp currently stands at 2C with a dew point of 1.8 and similar wet bulb temps. The forecast goes for snow moving up from the south o/night wed into xmas eve. Personally the uppers arent changing much to now for that event. I dont expect the temp or dew points to change much either so unfortunately i think another disappointment for lower ground will be in store. The coldest/snowiest night for me was Saturday night past. Any higher ground will continue to do well out of the next few days however.

Snow cover remained here all day, was very icy and mostly white on pavements, roads, etc. Although this evening we had a rain shower that has melted some of the cover, but still very icy out.

It was like the time Belfast got snowed in yet 5 miles down the road it was clear as anything. Shows how hit and miss these situations are. I remember comin up by Ballynure over the hill and Belfast in the distance was just a whiteout. Amazing scene.

Agreed! It has been a while since we had a run like this.

More talk of this belt coming up from the south and turning to snow on the higher ground as it meets cold air.

Really thick fog now and temps are hovering around 0.0-0.5c

Hasn't been much snow in Carryduff, however received about 3cm overnight with everything crisp and white this morning. Current temp is -2.5oC and untreated roads are treacherous.

Chance of a white Christmas on high ground on Christmas Evening as the rain pushes up from the south. Uppers are marginal at -4oC, we are in sub 528 dam, however dew points are above freezing.

Met Office seem keen to give something wintry on Christmas Day.

Lads,

Can you all fill your lungs and blow south please!

We are severely bereft of snow cover on the east coast and the greater Dublin region.

But........we live in hope,.........in the home of the black stuff, they dream of a white one!

70% chance of white Christmas woohoo

Christmas day will start on a cold and mainly dry note with one or two showers through Northern England and Scotland (in particular the northern half), these will fall as snow inland and more of a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow nearer to the coasts. By lunchtime, dry and bright weather will be the theme just about everywhere but the next system will be pushing through Ireland by this time - giving mainly rain and sleet to Southern Ireland (except on hills) but more in the way of snow for Northern Ireland.

Has anyone seen what the models are suggesting lately, continueing this cold spell (for us) right to the new year and beyond?....stonking of a Northerly lasting for over 5 days with very strong winds. upper temps reaching -10 at the height and only -4 at the top end in the next 10+ days. crazycrazy.gif
