Hiya Wellington!

Couldn't sleep (God knows how?) so thought i would have another look.

It seems the ppn has stalled South of the Thames, and you seem to be getting a bit of a pasting down there...Really envy you! If I didn't have to cover matches tomorrow/later today, I would head down to Surrey and have a glimpse of winter wonderland.

The cold snap looks to be continuing for a few days at least and Xmas is now looking quite hopeful. Gonna wait for the first few runs of the 00z.

But glad to see that some people are doing well, so enjoy mate.

Phenomenal late evening event here in Ipswich...another 2" on top of the already deep snowcover (5" from Thurs-fri event). Some huge flakes for an hour did it! The telephone lines are now sagging even more under the weight of the snow! After spotting Icicles today i must say I have'nt seen anything like this since 1991!! :drunk: Is that a trough i see developing behind the main front on the radar? :yahoo:

just shows you how powerfull the city of london is.. snows north of london/crosses a slightly warmer london turns to sleety rain/ dumps wet sleet rain on me and some other fellow netweather users close to me / then turns to snow a few miles further south (croydon etc) 3 miles away... Amazing!! :drunk:

Yet this powerfull weather generated city can produce huge storms during the summer :yahoo:

Actually i blame the larger drinking kebab eating humans for that!! :drunk:

Don't start! I just noticed there is a 'wave' in the isobars at the moment, so there is a brief N'ly element coming in through Cambs, and yes, there does seem to be a small band heading South, but if it does make it down to the London area, it looks like it will be far too East for my region, so yet another close call for me, but perfect for you (I hope).

I've been following that feature aswell. It has developed well into a nicely organised band, however it has started thinning and ppn intensity is reducing. Doesn't mean it can't still grow however.

A good night here in Barnet. At least an hour and a half of consistent snow, most of the roads now all covered with 3-4cms. Temp is at 0.6 and so far seems reluctant to fall, but thee are beginning to be a few gaps in the clouds.

What matches do you cover? Do you mean as a journalist?

It's become quite heavy here again, as we move through the second band following behind. It hasn't been a pasting though, don't worry. Started out as a bit of drizzle, and once that started picking up, i was actually quite worried. Fortunately it turned almost immediately to snow at that point, but being very wet, I have doubts as to how good it will have been for the rest of the snow. Hopefully that will have frozen it.

I'm not going to check how much until the end, just to amuse myself, but even with it coming down quite heavily in periods over the last hour and a half, I can't imagine the accumulations will be that great.

The difference the other night was that it was blizzarding, really hurtling down, and it was also very fine, so it settled everywhere, and didnt even fall off heated roofs over the last two days. Wet snow slides.

Well just had a look at the 00z for our potential down South on Monday. Looking less positive for me, the ppn is staying South of the Thames and when it does shove North (3pm Mon), the band of ppn breaks up over London (YET AGAIN!!!!).

I never liked the 00z, it always seems to go against me, but probably just because it it is so late.

Have to go to bed now, got two matches to cover before the big match, COME ON YOU HAMMERS (even though I am a Liverpool fan).

Night all!

Yeah, got a site: Premiershiplatest.com - Dream job I guess, but hard work keeping it maintained...Especially when I get diverted by this snow nonsense! :yahoo:

That's very surprising Sno, and rather frustrating for you no doubt. :yahoo:

As Wellington asked, what matches do you cover? Are you a football journo? If so, big up Barnet FC, we could do with a few more fans.

*edit* just looked at your signature, that explains it.

Haha I'm a Chelsea fan myself.... COME ON YOU BLUES. Right that should sort that out.

I think the 00z is looking better by the way. We don't really want that ppn, it would never fall as snow. Better keep the cold air, which the 00z does for us for longer.

Technically I live in the East Midlands, two miles from North Bedfordshire and five miles from NW Cambridgeshire. The main belt tonight was a bit of a disappointment, only 2cm out of that and a two hour period when the thermometer was nudging 1C. Just had a nice hour of snow though, unexpected, with the temperatures back below freezing giving a proper 3cm. So on top of Friday's more compacted snow, a good undisturbed 12-14cm level undrifted.

Now to peruse the 00z... two days in East Northants in Feb we had cumulatively 17 inches of snow from -3 and -4 850s, there was never more than 11 inches on the ground at once because when it wasn't snowing, it was thawing a tad. Maybes thats on the cards for early next week, for those areas that do have decent snow cover already.

Aiming to get coverage of all the league's soon, but right now concentrating on the Premiership and the World Cup Finals. Will tyr and give Barnet the 'big-up'.

Nice one, (and sorry Mod's for going off topic)

Laters,

Scott.

Firstly, Looks like you WILL win the league this year, despite the African Cup of Nations, as long as Man Utd don't win, then I am fine (my Dad was Chelsea youth so have a tiny soft-spot for them)

And secondly, you are right, the cold air does seem to be clinging on nicely on the 00z (only up to +54 right now), lets hope eh?

Good luck tomorrow Wellington, I don't think you need it unfortunately.

Cheers, it (the site) will be far better soon. Had the net-weather links for the football grounds on each team page, but in the last update i managed to lose the codes, so need to get them back up, amongst other things.

bring on a mild spell so I can concentrate on my work!!!!

Sounds like you're being very creative. Good luck!

The snow has eased off now - very light. All in all, I'm not completely convinced this batch was particularly good for the snow already lying. It's just so wet. Fortunately we still have a thick blanket over everything so no problem anyway. I hope temps drop off now though.

I hope temps drop off now though.

Likewise, it is still 0.6 here and the temp has only fallen from 0.8 at midnight, despite the heavy snow. Cloudcover isn't meant to clear here until around 6 so I hope there isn't too much melt until then.

Night all, let's hope for a polar low tomorrow or at least a good trough line.

Good night. I'm slowly reconciling myself to the fact that I have to say goodbye to my snow, because it is gradually going to disappear from now on I think.

Dropping like a stone here, now the skies have cleared a fall of 2 degrees in pretty much in the space of an hour to -3.2C. Everything crusted up again and icicles starting to reform. Getting into the February mode whereby the bottom inch is just pure ice.

Wow, for anyone who is still around, the 00z is shaping up to be extraordinary from 144ish onwards. Into FI and an almost unbelieveable battleground takes place with the warm air sliding away eventually, followed by what looks like it's going to be the mother of all arctic blasts, if the charts past t216 turn out as they look like they will.

UPDATE: Ok, so it never quite pans out as it should, but it's almost a blinder - gives me something to dream about.

Wow we really copped it last night, it was falling so fast and hard whilst alternating between huge flakes and tiny flakes for about 2 hours or so.

We got about 4" last night from it as most of our snow cover had gone and now everything is under a good 4" or so which is more than we had on the Thursday!

Off to church this morning (childrens service) so that will be interesting walking down there, no footpath and on untreated roads lol. I'm hoping to get up Blakeney church later on too get some photos from the top of the tower.

So when's the next lot now

not sure what the PPN was Pete, i was tucked up in bed by 11, got up at 0430 and there was a light snow shower but had stopped by the time i walked to the bus stop. big issue is that the moisture has frozen everywhere. not safe on untreated roads/pavements
