Most of these southerners are getting pasted with sleet or even rain- conditions on that frontal zone are extremely marginal, more so than in north-west England where it has clearly been predominantly snow away from the coastal fringes.

North-west England has seen plenty of showers today, but as is normally the case with sunshine and showers, some places get plenty of showers and others see hardly any. C'est la vie I'm afraid... but if you haven't seen many showers today, you have a fair chance of seeing some during the next two days which will continue the theme of sunshine and snow showers.

Comparing showers to fronts with regards to marginality is dubious. In any case there has been a fair bit of snow down there (none of that graupel nonsense either) as witnessed by the delays at Luton, Gatwick, Stansted, London City and Southampton airports, and it has been more widespread than a couple of random streamers.

Yet those places with no snow reports will get very low temperatures tonight!

0.0C here right now, -0.1C impending.

I imagine it could go down to -3C actually here, I had previously said -5C but perhaps not as the breeze continues.

Across the snowfields I think -7C is possible tonight.

The local weather forecast (Northwest tonight) just said that some showers will cross the region tomorrow afternoon. It looks like the south of the region (say from Manchester southwards) will have them only briefly while in the north they will continue well into the evening.

She said no great accumulations but due to the frozen surfaces (away from the coast) what falls is likely to stick. So, another radar watching day is coming!
