I know it's a bit of a long shot but what do we think of the big band of precipitation Just North of Ireland? http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

I know it's a way off but does anyone think that may have any possibility of making it far enough south?

At this moment in time a Large chunk of Central and Eastern Cumbria should be getting a pasting now.

Edit: Similar thoughts to C.G. above

It's 1.7c yet the 1cm of slushy snow we have left is frozen solid, along with roads.

Is this a malfunction with my sensor - Or can this be expected?

Just had a look at the NW radar, those showers are really starting to pep up in the Irish Sea. Net weather future radar shows showers here by 8pm with those showers moderate in intensity and possibly grouping together to form a small band of snow. A further cm or 2 for some i'd say.

I wouldn't think they would fizzle out. They seem to be increasing in intensity as they cross ireland. They MAY pick up moisture crossing the irish sea and bring some light snow to many in the early hours of the morning into tomorrow.

Just seen them...popping up like that, the cheeky buggers...but on the moto* office radar....and the showers spanning ireland are heading south east further...if they can reach the irish sea we may get some more if they can pick up some energy from the sea, as there still seems to be plenty there!!!

Fingers crossed....

How far south are these heading backtrack or is it a straight west-east affair??

Not a malfunction BT, it's 2.0C here but my grass has frozen, it's just the ground temperature is below 0C so it's freezing any water on the surface.

The BBC say they will hit cumbira all throughout tonight and tomorrow. Obviously we can expect a few showers tomorrow, which might be moderate at times, but tonight, we are relying on how long the wind can sustain a westerly flow.

Are you on about the developing showers or the band in ireland (I thought these were associated with a front off the low hence the s/w wind)

Certainly some showers developing in the Irish Sea, these will probably hit us if they group together enough, but what i'm looking at on the radar atm is a group of precip that appear to be ahead of the main band, some are in central Northern ireland, others are close to the Eastern coast of Ireland. Depending on how long the wind can sustain it's Westerly flow, we should be on the recieving end of those.

What do you guys think?

hahaha happy days mate smile.gif

Drawn a virtual line on the radar map from southport to halifax and anyone south of that line is gonna be lucky to get even a droplet of rain me thinks , let alone any of the showers its showing.

Just noticed also, snow being reported in North Wales!!

It's bone dry here at the moment, we had a brief snow shower around 6:30pm.

There isn't really significant snowfall around N/E Wales so far into this cold spell, around here we've had 1.5 inches, the horseshoe pass hasn't really faired much better with around 3 inches.

Ah well, I suppose it's better than nothing, as we still have alot of lying snow!

Hmm Yeah I forgot about wind direction, however looking further, there does seem to be a lot of precip off the West Coast of Ireland. If it, or remenants of it, made it across Ireland would there be some potential despite the WSW winds? Or am I being completely unrealistic/Overly Optimistic?

Lancaster should be seeing the showery activity anyway being futher north and you might even see some of those juicy showers coming through Ireland to dont blame me if its rain though.. Good luck.

Yes, the Cheshire Gap effect never happened, the showers went down the south Yorkshire/Notts/Derbyshire route

Don't have rain or snow here at the moment, luckily the last rain shower never lasted long enough to diminish any of the lying snow, temp at 1.6c praying whenever the precipitation hits next it snows, I'm real jealous of Osbournes situation, you always do well.

Cheers Snowmad, Haha I've learned to live with the Snow/Rain Drama over the years. Good luck to you too in regards to those showers.
