Well, after one of the most interesting Decembers in recent times, with a fairly average first half but one of the coldest second halfs in ten or fifteen years, what will january bring us, a continuation of the cold or a return to the modern January.

My prediction is 3.7C, 0.5C below average.

The average for January is 4.2C.

I am under the impression that the westerlies don't have too much oomph at the moment, the eastern side of the North Sea is cooling down nicely so I will go for a 2.9C

4.9, bit milder than normal. I think balance will have to be restored after the weather we've been having recently

not even the likes 1740 could rival the beast paul is predicting, the whole of england would be covered in ice rinks, itd be another frost fair over again!

Hmmmm. Tough one this early (as if it were ever easy!), the battle's still going on out there....but off to France tomorrow so better get it in or I'll forget.

+4.1 , provisionally - a tad below the 71-00 but above the 61-90. Overdue some high pressure which could drag it down even if it's not particularly cold air.....but the atlantic proper seems likely to re-assert too....on the other hand if the HP establishes Scandi-way...

1961-1990 was +3.8.

1971-2000 was +4.2

Ten-year running +5.0 (rounded down)

Five-year running +5.4 (rounded up)
