Definite but slow thaw here with misty conditions and the temp at 1.7c. I think its going to struggle to melt most of the snow however by boxing day i expect most of it to be gone, at least for me. The best hope is for it to freeze tonight! Its only really were new snow has fallen. Thankfully 90% of areas had old snow so they holding very well, for now...

We have about 5 inchs remaining in our back garden. About an extra inch over the last 12 hours. Very slight thaw at 0.5C and foggy. 7 days now with deep lying snow... Not bad for December @ 14m ASL.

We have quite a bit of snow across our areas so i think we should be OK in seeing some on the ground for Christmas day! :good: Just have to hope temps stay close to freezing overnight

There is 14cm on the ground and surfaces (car, bins etc), there is 19cm on the grass.

I'll try pics 9 & 10 again post-8968-12616580900913_thumb.jpg post-8968-12616581019713_thumb.jpg

Edit: The pics that are white with an red cross do actually work so I don't know why it's not showing

Is it still foggy at your end mark? The temp was 2c at around 8am and it's been at 1c since around 10am onwards.

It seems to be lifting into just overcast and misty in the distance. Temp is 1.7c here and seems to just be fluctuating. So a slow thaw but nothing huge. The front road is very slushy :good: I couldn't care less if it thawed christmas day night, its just this will be the most amount of snow i have ever seen on Christmas day :good:

Not good is it!!! Don't laugh but I just gone out and scrapped a lot of my remaining snow into a great big pile. IT WILL LAST UNTIL TOMORROW!!!

Well the dripping has started, but only on the trees and the roof. But anywhere else it still doing great, I can't say I mind if it drips as it has done so every day and has not made a difference to snow cover at all.

Hi all.

Average of 9cm lying snow here, so a thaw of 2cm or so. I expect a bit more thaw to come but we should definitely have a considerable amount left for Christmas Day :good:

Looking at the forecasts temperatures for tonight will only fall to 0 or -1 in most places. The lunchtime beeb forecast (Look North) even had mins of +1c for eastern areas of our region, so not as cold as previous nights.

However I expect the lying snow will remains in most if not all places :good:

Sky News have been saying that since I got up at 6am but it doesn't even match their own weather forecasts let alone anyone elses.

Here in Lincolnshire, we had a bad night with ice - over 40 RTA's around the county with 1 fatality.

Anyway, I got to finish early today and am home already so Merry Christmas everyone!!

Yes, thick fog all day here too. Temp rose to 0.7 but has dropped back to -0.4 now, so barely a thaw at all.
