Based on the latest BBC forecasts, they mentioned the possibility of heavy snow on Thursday. They didnt mention exact places of snow. Based on what I know now, the most likely scenario for coastal areas is rain and sleet on the front edge and as the colder air moves through, it could produce snow on the back edge as it moves out of the UK. This could all change though, as 3 days in weather terms is a long way off

Snowman

at the moment i would imagine the same area across the south east that got hit by snow on the 18th dec will get hit again late thurs/ fri maybe even more snow than the dec event but things have time to change but its looking promising :-)

Yes it does, with the risk of significant snowfall in inland areas across EA and the SE

Dont forget everyone its only December still! The typically more snowy January and February are still upon us! What a great winter we have ahead of us!

On the model thread TEITS mentioned the possibility of short lived convective activity off the North sea which may last 24-36 hours, which means heavy snow showers off the North sea, but a prologned Easterly is unlikely, and the timing of this is very uncertain

Hi Snowman. The low seems to be going much further north than we thought this morning, is this not what the GFS has been saying

all along but has been mostly ignored. It seemed yesterday we was on for a memorable cold spell and now just a dry cold spell after

2morows rain. Also what are the prospects for my location this week cc_confused.gif

Correct. Ive just been reading posts from TEITS and others in the model output thread saying that they think the E/NE'lies will likely be very cold, but not much in the way of snow. As we are unlikely to get any snow from the front moving up from the SW (except a bit of back edge snow as it clears south) could this mean we dont get to see much snow at all? Those comments have got me slightly worried. Surely there'll be some decent convective showers off the north sea?

I think we could see a short lived significant event which may last a day or two at best which could give a few inches, but after that it will be very cold and dry

The weather in Epping at 19:31 on 28-12-09. Barometer 1003.6mb and Steady. Temperature 1.3°C, dew point 0.5°C, temps seem quite reasonable. Others?

Using info from charts and models:

From tomorrow:

Rain across most of the region, maybe snow in the north and west, will clear northwards. Wednesday remains a cloudy day. On Thursday, the LP will head south and could potentially cause heavy snowfall in parts of the region as the colder air undercuts it. It is very uncertain at the moment. This weekend there is the risk of heavy snow showers in the region. As we enter next week, with little convective activity in the North Sea, days will be very cold and dry and ice will be a problem

TWS posted on the Model thread that the further north the better for the convective snow(Off the North Sea) The window for the convective snow will be short and the timing is unknown, probably during the weekend at this stage

BBC News had Rob McElwee on at 9.30 (interview rather than forecast) saying could get interesting for the SE on Friday - referring to snow

The netweather forecast maps say rain for our region all week wallbash.gif

Might be worth visiting the Model output thread (its pinned at the top of the Winter discussion area)

Looks like things might be slowly changing for the better... :good:

Evening,

Temperature right now is 3.5c, pressure is 995mb and falling slowly.

Don't think we're going to get much this time around in terms of the White stuff, not that excitement inside me as there was last time.
