Drink Carling.. it`s wholesome yet satisfying!ph34r.gif

Nothing in Melton not even a whisper..And yes cold...

I have a T-Shirt that says: "LAGER? Do me a FLAVOUR - make mine a Ringwood!" As a member of CAMRA and on the committee of Nottingham University Real Ale Society, that's a no can do! In fact, lager never makes it through the door of this house that often... :unknw: Why would you drink lager, it's so tasteless! :nonono::wallbash::cold::D

Weather: still cold.

Looks more like an Easterly/North easterly, the latter is probably the worst cold direction for snow for the Midlands.

No it's not wallbash.gifwallbash.gif

Please tell why did staffordshire get a white new year in 96?? it came from a North Easterly .

Not all the midlands does bad from a North Easterly OR a Easterly.

In feb this year the first off the snow showers came from the north sea, forgive me if i'm wrong did andy see heavy snow in leicester??

I didn't say we never get any snow from a North Easterly. I said it is considerably worse than most directions. And I should have said west Midlands.

Done the whole old peculiar, specaled hen, ped, and one I can`t recall from a pub somewhere in Notts that tasted wonderful!!!

However in order to keep a clear head, when those around you are becoming blurred it`s either Carling or Brown Ale for me!!

I suppose the period of interest for the Midlands, is next Monday. As a southerly tracking Low makes its way towards the channel, it'll bring with it quite a bit of moisture while at the same time draw in an easterly flow with cold upper temps. A similar setup as yesterday. These slack NE flows are not going to bring us much in the way of snow, even a slack NW wouldn't bring us much snow as has been already seen a few weeks ago.

Indeed, the heavy snow this February resulted in 2-4" in Birmingham as a result of potent easterly with many snow showers being blown far inland across the Midlands, as well as other bands of snow. A few days after the 2nd (not sure of the exact date) a very heavy snow shower during the evening dumped around 2" within 30-45min. So the west Midlands can do well off a north east airflow, but there are other factors involved.

Exactly...there is no HIGH ground to the east of the midlands only the fenlands and snow shower coming from a easterly will penetrate into the midlands.

Yeah, but regarding the west Midlands Nick is right, a north easterly is not the best source for snow, even though it can bring snow. This week doesn't look that good at all, maybe not that good for the east Midlands either. Models show precip hugging the mainly eastern regions of the country (north east and EA) and the FAX chart shows a few troughs affecting these regions. Still can't rule out a few snow flurries for tomorrow and Friday across the east or west Midlands, but generally the further north and east you are, the better your chances for seeing, perhaps, significant snowfall.

Yes mate i agree 100% with you. the NE of England looks the place to be. but i'm not going to write this coming week off, as i saw just before xmas all it takes is the precip to intense and come through the wash and bingo for us in Northants.

Yeah Friday afternoon has some hope, especially for those in North East midlands. Beyond that there still seem to be some opportunities in the week ahead for snow fun, probably nothing too dramatic and will take a fair amount of luck, but Im certainly enjoying the charts & predictions right now, even if I dont understand most of it.

Im 34 and I had no idea how lucky I was with the timing of my life, had enough big snow events to keep me happy as a kid, looking for another memorable one as an adult but can wait. Funny how yesterdays wet slushy snow triggered memories of how gutted I was when it snowed hard for hours like that sometime in my childhood, and the terrible letdown of it all going away. Not going to repeat the same emotions now, although radar watching can make me as nervous as trying to watch England play an international sporting event with the expectation that it will go pearshaped at the last minute. It wears me out, which is why Im glad of a rest today.

Went up to Buxton in the peak district today - they have snow there! Some snow/sleet showers too.

On lower ground in places such as Bakewell, all there was was rain!

Currently raining here in Derby - temp 2.7C! I thought it would be colder by now!

It wasn't a NEasterly back in 96, HP was to the North of the UK and showers fed in from the North Sea across to North Wales. The SE/E Anglia mob would have accused us of theft had it happened now !

But this looks a proper NEasterly and it will favour Eastern and SE areas, you will have a clutch of showery activity in NE Scotland and NE England and then separate lines of showers entering at the Wash area down to the IOW effecting all points SE of that line.

Thanks for that Ian, was my first year down here and i still remember waking up to a good 6 inches of snow that morning. it was a dream come true to finally see what an easterly/North easterly can deliver.

Coming from Bolton an Easterly or North Easterly is a nightmare ....the pennines block it out completely.

If going down the A49 The Bridge Inn at Dorrington is nice too, let us know how you get on, i went up there in 2005 i think, the Burway was bad!! (pictures please :)) We had pretty good snow last night, it was always the wet stuff, all but gone this morning, still some on the grass but sleety rain at times.

Plenty of snow on Wenlock Edge and on the hills around Church Stretton but at town level it was about 2 inches of slushy snow and mainly raining. Didn't try the Burway as it is usually closed and didnt have time to drive round try the gliding club ascent road. Now that is fun (1 in 4 single track) when it's icy!!

The hills had an excellant looking coverage though,

All I will say is once the snow showers come through the Wash and hit me then I shall blow them your way. However I shall make sure they miss Leicestershire. :):)

been sleeting/raining all day here, atm it's sleet and we are just hanging on to the eastern edge of the precipitation, the BBC seem to think that snow showers from the northeast coast MAY just make it to Leiecester, Coventry.

Seems unlikely, but it's a small grain.

There is a small fature showing up for saturday on the METO fax charts that may be worth watching.

I've just had a look at the radar and can't help but laugh! Derby might only be down the road, but the precipitation there is showing no inclination of making its way down the A52! :wallbash:

I would put money on any PPN still around in the Midlands by 10-11pm will be snow though. Even if it's light PPN.
