Cold, dry and bright with sunny intervals and 4 oktas ci and stcu. Temp' at 0900 was -0.2c and is now just above 0c.

Rainfall in 24 hrs to 0900, 1.5 mm

Patches of lying snow but 50% cover only above 340 m, however hills a few miles to the north have a complete cover down to about 300m, how annoying is that!!

Mean wind speed is 23 mph NE.

9inches on snow now!!!!,and more drifting overnight and with a min or -0.8c and partly cloudy.

The wetter snow yesterday all froze and left blobs of ice on the trees, thawing slowly off them, with a gentle NE wind and sunny with some mid-level cloud and high cloud going in different directions.

A dry day apart from a few flakes of snow around 1100. Sunny periods throughout with variable amounts of stcu, cu and alcu.

It's amazing how the perception of 'wintriness' is changed, even when it's cold, when the snow cover is gone.

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
