Very dry year apart from August, hopefully some decent rain totals this month.

It does amaze me how varying rainfall totals can be across a region. Both you guys recording just over 40mm of rain

and me in Wiltshire over an inch more at 72mm.

Of that 72mm, 35mm fell in around 6 hours in the early hours of Thursday 23rd!! That's quite amazing really!

I'm looking forward to Richard Angwin's BBC Points West forecast where he generally shows people's monthly rainfall

figures from across the region, that too will show a large variation!

Steve, it has certainly got off to a very wet start here, over 3/4 of an inch today with much more on the way!!

Jan = 93mm

Feb = 102.5mm

Mar = 72.5mm

Apr = 44.5mm

May = 31mm

June = 43.5mm

July = 48.5mm

Aug = 118mm

Sept = 72mm

Total = 625.5mm

Before I left home this morning, the rain gauge was reading 7.7mm's, should imagine that would be reading around 15-16mm at this stage, and looking at the radar, another 5-6mm to come.

106.6 mm here in September, 130% of the 30 yr average, making it the wettest month of the year so far.

The total for the year is 573.9 mm which is 70% of average to the end of September, and the way it's raining today is as though it wants to restore the average in one day.

It is indeed, I guess showers account for some of the range and of course topography has a lot to do with it aswell. Pretty dry year here, and almost 200mm drier than you which is quite something as we live in neighbouring counties!

October starting off much wetter and we have almost reached September's total already and surpassed the totals for April, May, June and July. 40.5mm has fallen in these first three days alone.

October yielded 83.8mm of rain, bringing the total to date so far this year to 586.9mm.

By the end of October, in previous years, we'd had

2009 - 924.2mm

2008 - 1191.5mm

2007 - 926.1mm

2006 - 756.0mm

2005 - 887.0mm

2004 - 1103.0mm

2003 - 846.0mm

2002 - 1041.0mm

2001 - 773.4mm

2000 - 1128.0mm

That gives a ten-year average of 957.6mm, which means that to date, we've had just over 60% of our average rainfall. Our extremely dry year continues.

19mm difference between our areas SS so quite a difference again. Was very interesting to see BBE Points West with Richard

Angwin showing 112mm as the highest in the region (can't recall where though) and Melksham the lowest at just 43mm.

Last November I measured 203mm, at this stage there had been 76mm and at this stage of this month I have measured

66mm plus whatever has fallen today. The NW accumulator suggests 10mm or so and therefore we're on about the same!!
