MetO update:

More frequent and heavier snow showers are expected in the east and southeast, and perhaps some longer periods of snow here, with associated disruptive condition

Wind direction seems to have changed here in south essex, a lot more dark clouds starting to build up now perhaps we may be lucky after all

If the Jet stream holds this could be a very intense Winter. Remember the great winters did not start until January and March even.... so it is going to be interesting. I bet Kent county council is panicking thinking of what to do now, as they have not got proper snow equipment for intense falls..... How funny!

And the BBC are normally quite conservative with there snow forecasts. If that's conservative then can you imagine what the forecast would be like on Thursday evening :help: .

Met forecast 6-15 day forecast:

The end of the week and next weekend is expected to continue very cold with widespread frost, severe in places, and perhaps extreme in some rural spots. Patchy freezing fog is also likely to form, mainly in the north, and which could linger all day in some inland valleys. Western parts of the U.K. will be mainly dry with sunny spells, although occasional sleet or snow showers are possible here from time to time. More frequent and heavier snow showers are expected in the east and southeast, and perhaps some longer periods of snow here, with associated disruptive conditions. The rest of the period is also likely to remain cold. However, it may not be quite as cold as the previous week and probably drier, with less widespread snowfall.

blackie, paul s. I think we maybe in luck... Wind looks like its shifted and very dark clouds overhead!

Well, the dark clouds are now overhead, but no snow as yet. I just checked xcweather and the winds are now forecast to be northerly right through this evening and tonight, and even turning westerly over the next couple of days. D'oh!

However, look ahead to Friday and they show a steady NEly turning progressively more easterly, and increasing in strength to 30-40mph by 9pm. Now if those winds are loaded with snow it will be a huge snowfest - and quite far inland, too. Just bear in mind what Tomasz said on the Countryfile forecast, though. The low could end up further south, and would then affect fewer areas or produce less snow for many. But of course, further south for us could mean the winds will be even more out of the east. The excitement is starting to build. Let's just hope the reality doesn't disappoint.

Having just read through this morning's posts on this thread, and before everyone gets too excited, please remember that old Tom is interpreting the models just like the more knowledgeable posters on this forum who have had a bit of a hard time lately.

Friday is a long, long way ahead in forecasting terms and as we have seen, snow is extremely difficult to predict even at short notice.

It looks good - but it has looked good for quite a number of days now and things change or don't quite verify in the way that is interpreted at the time. Forecasters can only do their best with the information they have to hand.

I would like to add my thanks and appreciation to all of those posters (we all know who you are!) who put a huge amount of time and effort in to posting on this forum, interpreting the charts and adding your own detailed knowledge. It's a fantastic read whatever comes to fruition and without you there would be no forum. Your hard work does not go unnoticed or unappreciated I can assure you.

Please keep the posts coming - any 'criticisms' are completely uncalled for but and borne more out of disappointment more than anything and should not detract in any way shape or form from the brilliant posts that you guys put on for others to read and learn from.

Thanks guys.

think its going to be interesting arvo and eve on essex and suffolk coast, showers seem to be lining up of the coast at mo and the winds got bit more east in it to, and fairly light so they will last in one area a bit

Yep Neil, its dark to the east over the sea, coming in I would say from Birchington to Reculver way and moving progressively eastwards, i would say its about 10 to 15 mins away at a push and its falling heavy from what I can see through the binocs! Looking good. Do you want me to upload an image for you?

We've had a few light flurries this morning from the rash of showers streaming in from the North East but no accumilations as yet. The temp is now +2.6c but is fluctuating between +2 and +3c ...

Yep this one is a good one for sure, its a nice one, its darkening and growing, which is definately due to the tide being in as well... its good, I expect it to start in about 7 to 10 mins... I can see its streams of snow falling now out to sea about 2 or 3 miles away, long lines of the stuff
